The Diablo and BattleNet team all left sometime after Diablo 2.

Where did they go anyway?

part of the diablo team did hellgate london. part of the battlenet team went somewhere else.

the controlling thing is, the most of the main Blizzard dev group, is still in place- most particularly Enoyls...if you do not know his online Bnet name, his name is Rob Pardo. president of product development- course i know him as his everquest name(we played everquest on the same server-along with tigole-aka jeff kablan(lead producer of world of warcraft) and a few other blizzard Devs).

btw to show how much of a CASH COW World of Warcraft is... in the announcment of the merger they separate out blizzard revenue....over 1.7 billion dollars Annually just from wow...profit after expenses (servers. hosting. payroll. ~600 million)

Blizzard is Blizzard, they ain't changing their ways. the game will ship when its ready. period. MM had long conversations with both vivendi and activision when the deal was going thru and their contract with vivendi specifically states (paraphrasing) "we do things our way, leave us alone"

Many of them went to form ArenaNet (ie GuildWars).

Oh that's right.  That was the big draw of Guild Wars when it was first coming out.

Guess you can tell how much I cared about Guild Wars after the fact.

And we all know how well that game did. And the big talent didn't actually go there (maybe big names but not the talent), a lot of them went to a studio in Austin that I can't remember the name for the life of me.  Red 6 or something like that, been too long since I thought about it.  I just remember their booth at GDC.
