Forums - Gaming - Used Video Games Vs. New Video Games

It depends for me. If I don't agree with the company's philosophy (*cough*EA*cough) but I really want to play the game, I won't buy the game new so it doesn't count as a sale and help them.

I dated a woman who worked for Origin when they made the move from Tx to Ca, I will never give EA a dime ever again for what they did to that company and the people who loved the Origin atmosphere.

In fact, if you look at their acquisitions it's pretty much a graveyard of a lot of old great developers.

So yeah, EA games I'll always buy used. If it's a game I like and a company I like, especially a small company (Double Fine making Psychonauts) I'll go out of my way to hunt for it brand new and support them.

That's a very admirable way to do it.  Personally I'm just a complete freak about keeping things in "like new" condition, and it kinda defeats the point if it's in bad shape when I get it.  I'll buy used if I see a good price, but I usually balk at what game retailers charge for their used stuff.

I never buy without a case and manual unless it's a cartridge game (because almost all of them have lost their stuff) or if it's marked down to dirt cheap.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
