Rumor: Video leaks Call of Duty subscription plan

A video posted by a 360Junkies forum member may suggest that online subscriptions or paid memberships are on the way for Activision’s popular online shooter, Call of Duty. The video apparently reveals a “membership” screen unseen before by the likes of the internet.

“I was trying to join a friend’s session on MW2 the other day and had this screen pop up,” the 360Junkies forum member wrote. “It clearly says at the top of this menu: ‘Modern Warfare 2 Membersh’, in which we can confidently assume that the last word is “Memberships”. If you’ll notice at the bottom is an option to “Add Microsoft Points”, clearly indicating that this was intended to be a menu for purchasing different levels of Membership, presumably memberships would have been offered in a variety of durations.”

The video in question can be seen below. Make what you will of it.

Lol, he gets a heads up on these kinda things (as many analysts do) - it's not like he's predicting the future!

well yea thats kinda what i meant in my next post

If this comes to pass it's gonna hurt future CoD sales by a substantial amount. Pay to play works for World of Warcraft because it has somewhat of a monopoly on the mmorpg market. There's really not any competition. Console FPS games are a dime a dozen, and many of them are as good as CoD.

I know that if I have to choose between playing Halo Reach for free or Black Ops for a fee I won't be playing Black Ops.

Does the vgchartz team also gets a heads up on these things??

Is this even real? lol

Pachter could have secret insider information. World of WarCraft recurring monthly fees to play it online. CoD and other games could follow suit. Lose some sales but make up for it through paid up subscriptions. Developer makes more money in the end from the sale of the game plus DLC subscription fees.

Looks like Medal of Honor will be the king once again of FPS shooters. Funny cause it's the only FPS I am actually going to buy. I am done with the COD franchise, and most things Activision as they are bunch of greedy people. Who puts a suscription on a FPS game for the love of god... Idiots!
