Will Console and PC Gaming Decline in 2010?

Both Will Decline. 9 18.75%

Only PC Will Decline. 15 31.25%

Only Consoles Will Decline. 13 27.08%

Both Will Grow. 11 22.92%

Total:48

This is not a flamebait of any kind. I'm just interested at your perception of how both markets are doing in 2010.

And I'm only considering Software Revenue.

I want the option of PC games will grow Console games will stay the same-ish.

if anyone thinks that the PC software market will decline in the year Starcraft 2, Civilisation V and a WoW expansion comes out IDK what to say...

I think consoles may decline YoY from how strong the line-up was last year.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Both will grow this year. I mean just look at the lineup- Halo Reach, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Gran Turismo 5. That's three sales heavy weights all coming out this fall. If thats not incentive to grow then I don't know what will.

Console sales will stay roughly the same I think.

Later this year, big games like GT5 and DKC Returns are coming out.  However, DS sales will certainly be lower so that could drag consoles figures down below last years.

Exactly. Even last year, in the middle of recession, PC Gaming still increased 3% despite only having 1 huge seller on Sims 3.

This year PC will have Starcraft 2, Civilization V and WoW: Cataclysm. Last year, only Sims 3 was on the level of those 3.

And interestingly, 2011 will have even more huge exclusive sellers: Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 expansion, Star Wars: Old Republic and Guild Wars 2, plus other important games like Warhammer 40,000K MMO, Shogun 2, etc...

you really think that Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 part 2 is going to make it out next year? I have my doubts I think it will get pushed to 2012  and the Warhammer 40K MMO is slated for 2012 plus I don't think it will be that big TBH. The old Republic and Guild Wars 2 will be huge tho.

well 2009 had MW2 and NSMB Wii. Two HUGE sellers for the consoles.

This year we have Halo Reach, Black Ops, GT5, Fable 3, Donkey Kong, Wii Party for the consoles. I think it might be flat on the consoles.

The PC market is going to increase, but that is not that hard considering how bad 2009 was. Blizzard, the one and only on the PC market, releases 2 games. Last year they didn't release anything. You basically have to check blizzards releases to make a statement about the PC market.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Yeah, ever since Sierra and Westwood folded, the big names and anticipated games in PC gaming have gone elsewhere.

I agree in comparison to 2009 where there was really no big PC release other than Dragon Age: Origins, it will only be higher this year due in large part to StarCraft 2.

I have a contrarian thought, if this economic recession continues for another 2 plus years, then we may see the PC market downsize even further. Think about it. PC gaming is the most expensive platform to game. The entry point is a PC costing at least $1200 and higher if you want to play the latest, greatest FPS at maximum resolution settings.

Computer technology gets better year after year along with getting more expensive, therefore how can one expect long term increases in the PC market in the midst of a global economic downturn when consumers just do not have that extra $1000 to blow in upgrading their PC or getting a new one?

As for consoles, year over year fluctuates, but it is a fairly stable market because of the low entry point for the individual consumer.

Also, videogame sales, especially PC ones, are moving significantly to digital distribution, which is currently no tracked by VGChartz.
