Forums - Sony - Sony: The PS3 Shortage Is Over!

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/110/1106530p1.html

Rejoice, Sony fans! The company has noted that the PlayStation 3 shortage in the U.S. is no more. The console moved 305k units in June, up from 165k units in June of 2009, according to NPD.

"PS3 inventory issues have been resolved and June 2010 marks the 11th consecutive month of year on year growth for the platform," the company said in a statement.

Sony noted that there are nearly 13 million PS3 units in living rooms across the U.S. and that hardware unit sales are up 85 percent since June 2009 and 42 percent since January 2010.

"Video games are fueling new innovation for the entire consumer entertainment category and today's numbers are a testament to the big impact we'll play this holiday," said Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA.

"With a healthy flow of PS3s back in the channel, and eleven months of PS3's consecutive growth behind us, we're confident the PS3 will become the main entertainment hub for many new consumers this year and provide countless reasons to congregate in the living room."

where can i see these numbers?

I bet it won't be up YOY for 12 months, or would it be month #13 that would be fully matched to price/slim changes?

As for the reference to whats to be expected during holidays, um, same as last year or a little less is my guess. By then the price/slim effect is definitely leveled off as far as YOY is concerned.

Only way that will be different is if there is price cut late this year in combination with the last big IP, GT5.

Yeah, you got to love the statements these companies put out. I wonder if next year at this time they will announce that they are down 11 straight months yoy.

What shortage? :/ Well I guess the shortage I never knew about is officially over... Btw why would a company like Sony screw up logistics this bad? I thought they were a hardware company and all that.

Shortage? If you mean that at least 5 or 6 sitting in TRU's back room just about at all times except more after a truck  is a shortage... then... I guess so...

laughing out loud so i guess NPSs ps3s 2X sales rise form may had nothing to do with supply meeting demand
