I usually have some sort of gripe with that kind of stuff. This whole thing looks like it was consensual, and anyone with a bit of study in philosophy and defending individual freedom should agree that there is a massive hole in the logic of punishment for a victimless crime. Having a kid with your own mother means about 1/4 of chances of genetic issues, so that would be a crime, for sure...

But still... aren't most of we against unallowing people with genetic issues to have children? It would be Nazist and simply crude, huh? How is that any different? Look, I'm not defending any of this, just trying to look beyond the whole issue. I wonder if someone could answer my question with more than "well... it's weird and plain wrong".

I think that in cases as violent as these (in psicological terms) its pretty important that institutions take good care of both the victim and the "criminal" (victima and victimario in spanish).

The main reason events as this get so much atention is because it makes our cultural beliefs crumble. "Incest" as a moral condenmed act is a cultural creation. The fact that we have a word for that says it all in its own.

If you look it up, in many cultures it was "natural" (and in some still is) that the first sexual relation of people was with their parents, specially for girls. Fuck! I read once that there is even a society whose initiation ritual consisted for young people who wanted to be seen as adults from that day on to make a felatio and swallow what comes out of it to the elders because they thought that masculinity was held in semen (btw: imagine how many porn stars would looks as Arnold Schwarzenegger already).

I mean, if you look all of those things through our "cultural glasses" it makes perfect sense they are perturbing. But if you try and take them out and try to understand how those people see the world, their relations, their beliefs, their  aspirations, you are less impelled to immediately disapprove what they are doing. You don't need the urge to reject it.  You don't feel it is a menace to you at all.

Anyway, returning to subject, I don't know how these two lived it. I'm pretty sure that the fact that she gave him in adoption may have been the main reason she got turned on by his son, and also the main reason why she didn't want to subdue her desire. For the kid, he was confused and happy, a 14 year old hot blooded boy with a hard penis. He may have been so confused that he couldn't rationally control his desire either. But as far as we know, relatives who gave in adoption and later reunite and have sexual relations with each other may be a syndrome, as the grandmother story has this points in common.
