the PS3 weathers the storm, now over the next 6 months we will see if it has enough to sail back home.

It won't just make it back, it'll make it back with tales of a brand new gaming era unlike any other with a host of gaming treasures for its fans.

Good things come to those who wait.

N64 in 1998 ...
Gamecube/XBox in 2003 ...

There really is no "comming back" from becomming the trailing console. The NES, SNES, Gameboy, Playstation, PS2, Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS all demonstrate the standard pattern of getting the lead early, using that lead to build (massive) thrid party support, and leveraging that third party support to build their dominant market position. Right now Nintendo is pushing publishers to give the Wii (at least) equal resources to the XBox 360/PS3 which will translate into dramatically more Wii games being produced than PS3/XBox 360 games; and Microsoft is pushing publishers to release every PS3 game on the XBox 360.

Both Microsoft and Nintendo are in a position to effectively block any comeback the PS3 could attempt ...

i dont agree. I think the general consensus is that the Wii is its own......thing. That isnt a knock, its amazingly innovative and its done what NO ONE thought it could do. Its special. Its VERY special...special in a way that it will NEVER be touched again, the wii is just idfferent also. So i dont agree nintendo is really going to even have to do anything first and foremost. Publishers, devs and most consumers view the Wii as different...sure it stings most folks on this site, but the sooner people embrace its difference the better. Its justnot in direct competition with th ePS3 and 360.....its also unlike anything we have seen so its hard to put a finger on it....the control scheme, content and function alone put it into a class by itself.

That being said.....Microsoft just wont be able to keep up. Its blown its load, imo. Its had a year headstart and even with AWFUL software and expensive prices the PS3 is on its way to closing the year head start of 9-10 million units. Halo is out, there just arent any SPECIAL IP's right now on the horizon. MSFT has had the price advantage. The only reason i say these things is i see Europe's sales, PS3 software beating 360s already? wtf is that? Japan, no discussion needed.....And the states, well, MSFT has that locked down at least until GT, MGS, Killzone (just hype alone) come out....

Clearly the wii will stay ahead, and stay ahead forever simply base din its ablitliy to tap an untapped market of, well every human on earth, lol. But thats the 360's downfall. Look at Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, virtua fighter......then Halo, Gears, hell any FPS.......the 360 is very specific in its genres and fan base......this will be its downfall. The PS3 has GT, Singstar, Final Fantasy, MGS, Ratchet, Little Big Planet, Home.....its got the potential to bring in a vast array of consumers, imo this is why eventually the PS3 will move comfortably past the 360. Besides Crackdown (halo 3 beta anyone) can the system hang its hat on anything of its own that doesnt involve guns?

Microsoft wont be able to keep up and already lost their lead in Europe? I thoght they were still 2 million ahead. And no good games in 2008? I can count quite a few exclusive games that will sell over 2 million copies. Also, your forgeting about price point advantage that the 360 will have over the PS3 throughout the entire generation even if it is just $50. And even at just $50 less than the PS3, its still kicking the PS3's ass. Also, at a 7 million deficit, the PS3 is gonna have to outsell the 360 by 500,000 units a month for over a year just to be tied. No one, not even Michael Patcher's kids believe thats gonna happen.

Need for Speed is ahead, Kane an dLycnh.....COD4 and Ass Creed is about even......in Europe the PS3 is doing tremendous.

What are the "quite a few" exclusive that will sell over 2 million......like mass effect? or Blue Dragon?....come on man. The 360 is great for what it offers, it offers it well..but my point was about diversity and im sorry, but Fable wont sell 2 million if mass effect cant push near 300k first week.

Its not about 1 year either, thats exactly my point previously.....there is a big term, large picture here....Sony doesnt have to take its lead by next year.

Why do yo point out 2 games out of its 27 million sellers to try and prove a point about software sales. And how about total software sales instead of one game for one week? Mass Effect is officially 2 weeks old and even Dragon Quest only sold 500k outside of Japan on a 100 million user base. Chill out on Blue Dragon not taking over the world. Mass Effect is doing fine at over 300k already, doing better than Oblivion for the same time frame, which did sell over 2 million.

Sorry, the 360 actually had 29 million sellers in 2 years, not 27.

If they had waited another year to release it they would have had the same problem again with the high initial price. But I see your point, the wait for the killer-apps would be relatively shorter and they can still survive on the success of the PS2 and PSP. Ever since the launch of the PS3 they have been losing money.

But then again there would be no nextgen war! PS3 would be too far behind the Xbox360 and Wii. But atleast we would have known wich is the new standard for HD movies. Blu-ray would be dead by now if it didn't came with the PS3 a year ago.

Wii found success though released a year after 360 because it was different and catered to casual gamers, nintendo fans, to an extent the hardcore, and a whole new fan base as well.

PS3 on the other hand has near identical competition with the 360. They should have released earlier without blu-ray, and been there to go head to head with the 360.

 Agreed.
