Forums - General - French Parliament Votes To Ban The Burka

No. Not because i "don't like them". I didn't say that at all. I gave perfect reasons.

And as for the "and finding rare cases where poeple use them to commit a crime is stupid, I can easily do the same for hoodies and such." Go ahead. I don't care. I was only using it to show that it isn't just Muslim women who wear them. For all you know, Bin Laden could have walked past you in the street just Yesterday... The same goes for everyone else in the thread.

Oh, and you're the one being pathetic. You're trying to find the littlest little thing so you can play the racist card again. Get a grip.

The Burka (or however you spell the damn thing) is made to cover your entire face, baring the eyes, while you walk around in the street or work, doing day to day things. It hides your identity. End of. Do you support the supposed "ID Card" thing that was (or is?) going to happen here? Would you agree that Millions of those ID cards will have the exact same "face" on them?

The things you pointed out as should be banned, all have uses beneficial to the person wearing them, and even people around them in some cases (I'm looking at you, Bike Helmet and Internet). Paper bag is just "pathetic". The Burka... Doesn't. If anything it creates a problem for the vast majority of people around them. Especially nowadays with the Taliban and bomb scares...

And i fully agree with the quote posted in this thread. When in Rome...

Get over it. The Burka being kept as legal doesn't even benefit you...

I oppose ID Cards...

thats debatable, what benefit does wearing a hoodie give you? non medical plastic surgery? IM rather than phone?

"when in rome" is stupid, so if I go to a city known for rape, should I rape people too?

so what? im not allowed to care about peoples rights unless they affect me? thats stupid.

thats fine, if police ask them, they should, if they refuse, then they should find something to do then, but banning them for all because of that is stupid, its like banning all cats because one cat scratched a policeman.

Do what then?

if they have sufficient suspicion arrest them

edit: answer my other point.

Witch point exactly...The cat that scratched a policeman?

yes.

Let me change it a little;...What happens with a dog that attacks a policeman and bites?

Living animals = Burka?

its the same logic...

youre saying because one thing may happen, all similar things should be banned.

"one person with a burka may be a criminal, so we should ban the burka"

is the same logic as:

"one person with a crucifix uses it to throttle people, so we should ban the crucifix"

or even:

"one black man is a murder, so we should arrest all black men"

Must say that I don't totally  agree with the 'when in Rome' aswell...

But their must be an minimum of integration though....

also, are they going to ban Nuns from wearing their dress? no, of course not, because nuns are normally white christians.

and of course the nuns habit doesnt cover their face.  your attempt to bring race into this is just sad on your part.

you cant see their hair...and some of them wear them in way that makes it very hard to see their faces.

and if they were banning the hijab, maybe your argument might make some sense.

This is what I said:

If they show their face when police asks to do..or at situations when proper identification is needed I don't have a problem with it all...If they refuse then they should not be surprised that a country/city wants to ban it...but yeah if they accept it.....it will be hard to say I am for a ban or not...What is more important that the women have the right to wear it...or ban it so no husband can demand to wear it...Allowing it can make other husbands demand it aswell...

^This is why I would support a ban or not.

sadly it does not help some use the burqa for criminal activies..

^This is just some information why people would prefer a ban aswell..but only for this reason ban it would rather be an weak reason still if people want a ban for that reason I can understand them..

those are both bad reasons though, its essentially boiling down to "because they dont all do what we want", you are no better than the husband, you are forcing them to do something possibly against their will.

the second point is so fesecious, you can use that to call for a ban on anything as ive pointed out.

You have taken my "When in Rome" out of all proportions. If I went to Saudi Arabia (for example) i would respect their customs as I am in their country. I wouldn't go around without a t-shirt on just because I wanted to express my freedom. I would respect the majority of the natives wishes, what right would I have to go to someone elses land and start calling the shots to the aggrivation of the vast majority? None what so ever.

Also, come on....you knew how people were using it....nothing to do with crime like rape.

If someone has been horribly scarred, is it OK for them to cover their face? What about brides before they get to the altar, is there a limit on how much we have to be able to see?

I don't like the burqa, it's alien to me, I know it can be used to repress women but that doesn't give me or anyone else the right to ban a piece of clothing, or compel people to show their face if they don't want to. If people need to be identified they can ask for it to be removed.
