FF XI ran just great on the PS2. I see no reason why it should be different for XIV on the PS3. |
FFXI ran as well as it could on the PS2, but it wasn't comparable to the PC version. Although, PS3 can allow the use of a keyboard.

I work in the mmo scene and your statement is faaaar from the truth.
I dare you to toss up some community sites backing your ridiculous claim.
Not only that I'm a avid ffonline player...alot of folks are excited about ff14..and none of them are going ""omg my pc is soo old must spend 300$ for a ps3 to play a heavily down graded and dumbed down version instead of spending 99$ for a new vid card" etc.
I get your like gaga over anything ff and ps3 but...you need to get your facts right. |
Visit Eorzeapedia.com or FFXIVcore.com or FFXIV Zam
There are many threads associated with just how disappointed people are that the PS3 version got delayed. People don't have the money to go out and buy new computers for 800
The PS3 is 300 dollars and will be able to run it at 720p fine. And a new graphics card is not the only thing needed for most people. CPU, GPU, Ram, and Video cards will be needed.
I'm glad that you are fortunate to have all the money in the world apparently, but not everyone has that style of luxury. and for reference, I DOUBT you work in the MMO scene....pal.

I read the thread and you beat me to my intended response. I would also add FFXIVvalut.com. The sentement I got from daily checking 3 or more FFXIV sites a day was that the slim majority (around 50%) intended to play on the PS3, while about 40% wanted to play on PC and 10% would own both (so they could play at the same time as a roomie or a g/f). When the release announcement came out that slim majority sounded pretty disappointed, but the bulk of them said (75% as stab in the dark guess) griped a bit before admitting they would go ahead and get the PC version. I think that a year from now some of those will have slipped back over to the PS3. But from my hour a day of combing FFXIV sites it seems that the community that is on those sites with me is ready to go with the PC version in September.
However, upgrades will need to be made to many a PC to get this game running above Low settings. FFXIV won't be Crysis 2, but its going to be a beast.
I planned on buying both so I could earn some trophies. But that probably will not happen now. But I may buy the disk off of a friend for like 20 bucks to have it in my collection.
While I do think it's pretty silly to assume FFXIV will fail, I wouldn't be surprised that a year after release console gamers represent a pretty small amount of the total population.
I haven't played FFXI in a while and sadly they don't report number of players who play on PS2/360 in the census, but it was pretty rare to find someone whos main mode of play was through a console.
I occassionaly met a person who played on a console and the only person I actually knew that played on their PS2 was someone who only played on it while someone else was using their PC.
(though I do know a good number of people that rented FFXI for the 360 just for achievements)
I hate MMO's, Square should think only about making another great JRPG and not split their field and end up with a sh*t storm like FF13..
Dude, MS better have an exclusive MMORPG in the works or I call Bull****

Why? It's not like this game is going to be a major draw for consoles.
People may be able to point me to a thread where upwards of dozens of people are upset the PS3 version is delayed, but that doesn't change the fact this is primarily a PC game.
The PS3 may have the advantage that you can connect a mouse and keyboard to this but I don't think most people that want to play FFXIV will take advantage of that. MMO's just need a keyboard. Plain and simple.
It's possible to play and communicate an MMO with just a controller, FFXI proved this, but it also proved that it isn't fun.
Also, the other reason why FFXIV will be by far the best on the PC-- user mods.
I'm not talking about SE sanctioned, I'm talking about things like the Windower and all the awesome plugins it brought for FFXI.
I don't think I knew anyone that didn't use the windower.

Actually I think using the keyboard sucks. I prefer a controller any day. I'll be using my DS3 on my PC.
I also don't use a windower.

Using the controller for gameplay isn't too terrible (I actually tried it a few times), the problem comes in trying to use macros quickly and actually comminicating with people.
I guarantee you I can out macro anyone using a controller (especially using windower macros) , especially since you'll have to have a set of "OMG help me!!" macro's that I don't need to have.
I don't remember the pluginI use with Windower, but I had incredibly detailed sets of macro's for every job combination that could completely change depending on the day, time, and my current status.
Even before I started using that plugin (it used XML, I can't remember for the life of me what it was called) I had more than ALT and CTRL numbers macro'd, I even had most of my letters because I just used so many spells.
I don't know what you played but I played mainly mages and Alt 1-0 and Ctrol 1-0 just couldn't cut it. Considering controllers have even less macro space and are slower, it just doesn't compare.
(remembers the horrors of setting up my SMN/SCH macros)
