It's great, I'm still technically playing it... 96 hours or so.
I'm having fun doing all the quests at the end (if you don't use the death trick) which I don't.

For me Story was dissapointing, but not the characters. But the gameplay, art design was a blast (For me anyways) Music was fantastic for me as well.

I have a very similar opinion to this and FFVII actually for the exact reasons I described above. (Not Crisis Core as the Story was Excellent, and the gameplay was just passable IMO)

9/10 for me (which I initially thought it was) And I give every other very good game a 9/10... even though I like certain ones better :P

IMO it wasnt that great, for me FF is about great story and likeable characters XIII has nither lighting is cool but shes basicly cloud but its still a good game and its alot better then FFXII

It's simply the best JRPG this gen. There's not a lot of competition though.

It has not changed for me, 8/10, there are already better JRPGs out if you take in the overall package and not just look at the graphics.

After playing FF6 for a couple hours today, I'd say I give FF13 a 7/10 mind you I did trade it in before I even hit chapter 11 ;P

"Life is but a gentle death. Fate is but a sickness that results in extinction and in the midst of all the uncertainty, lies resolve."

I was personally disappointed with the game. I thought the characters as a whole were a step up from FFXII but still short of the other games. Sazh, Vanille and Fang were all interesting but I found Hope, Lightning and Snow to be dull and irritating. The story was probably one of the games stronger points and it progressed nicely especially through the gradual reveal of the events from the 'Thirteen Days' prior to the begining of the game but it was spoiled by the dialogue which at times was cringe worthy.

I wasn't really a fan of the gameplay either. The battles too often revolved around just mashing x with little skill or thought required and the lineality was painful. It became a case of run down a straight corridor, fight a few enemies, watch a cutscene (which did look fantastic) and then rinse and repeat. Where as with previous FF games I couldn't wait to carry on playing to find out what came next,  with FFXIII I just became bored and was actually glad when I finished it.

Perhaps I set myself up to be disappointed with the the anticipation I had for the game but it really did fail to deliver for me.

It wasn't that good to be honest. I felt it was extremely boring for a JRPG, the combat wasn't exactly bad but it was pretty much decent. Story, well I stopped giving a damn about the story 20 hours in and it wasn't that interesting to begin with, not to mention the god-awful pacing of it. the characters weren't all that bad(except for vanille) but they're not exactly memorable in the same time. surprisingly, the voice acting was decent for a JRPG(except for vanille), especially Lightning's and Sazh's V.A.

What I really hated about FF13 is its extreme linearity. Now I hate throwing the "linearity" card because there are a lot of RPGs I like that are also linear but at least those games allow me to have freedom, exploration and interacitivity with the world. FF13 offers none.

It's not the worst JRPG I've played but It's definetly one of the weakest.

Vanille is nowhere near as annoying in Japanese, the game is a better experience in Japanese VO in general unless you are not OK without English VO.

I would still contest that it has the best battle saystem the series has ever had. The story and its characters were completely uninteresting though. It had no lasting impression on me and I'd likely rate it a slightly lower than I had previously.

I should probably expand on that last point. I meant that the story, music, characters and its world had no lasting impression on me, not that it didn't have a great aftergame;  I thought that was really fun, actually. Perhaps better than the main adventure.
