I was looking at something like this for example, but not sure what it has going for it.

Very rare to come across good 3D information lol, I googled my questions and got bored trying to find answers.

That monitor does not have HDMI 1.4 and will not work with PS3, bluray players or your Sky HD box...out of the box. It can work on a technical level but Samsung, Sony and everyone involved want you to pay more money for this technology hence they have locked out any device which doesn't have HDMI 1.4 from using any of the new toys...even if that device is technically capable of doing it.

What that monitor can do is work in 3D using a PC and Nvidia 3D vision. PC needs to have an Nvidia high end graphics card and a solid quad core CPU.

If you have that you can watch blurays using any PC bluray drive (pretty cheap these days) and this plugin - http://www.arcsoft.com/en-us/software_title.asp?ProductCode=SIM3D

You can play 2D to 3D movies and DVDs and you can play PC 3D games.

Ther eis a solution for ATI video cards as well...but I won't get in to that now. :)

If your looking for a 3D tv, don't go for the Smasung TVs...well not just yet.

There is currently an issue with Quality as the product was rushed, Samsung wanted to be the 1st manufacturer to have3D TV's so they sacrificed quality.

currently known issues with the sets include, 3D infrared emmiter failure, screen failure, HDMI failure, and USB slot failure. Most issues are being fixed via firmware, but I would suggest waiting to at least to the end of the year so that these quality issues are refined so that these issues don't happen as much as they are happening now.

Source for any of these issues?

I haven't heard any of these claims. Reason why samsung had them first and early is because they've had Full 3D displays ready in 2008 and showed them off at CES 2009, but decided to hold off for a year since the HDMI 1.4 standard wasn't finalized.

They've been doing 3D ready displays since 2007...

Buying advice? Don't get the first generation sets! All 3D models suffer from weak colour reproduction even plasma to a lesser extent. Wait until fall of next year for the 2nd generation 3D sets. That way you'll get a far better model, lower price and more stable technology.

Ahh, thanks for the info, without it I could have seen myself buying something not even compatible with my current gear.

I guess waiting is by far the best option for a smaller screen.

Thats the best option for the average consumer. These new 3D TVs are pretty pricey, and glasses as well as other gear are rediculously priced. I have met people on forums who have made 3D theater rooms in their basements using 2 1080p polarized projectors for less than it costs to get a 50 inch TV and 2 pairs of active glasses.

All those have useful information but are somewhat shallow and only concentrate on HDMI 1.4 3D...

This is all one needs to visit to learn about all 3D displays - http://www.mtbs3d.com/

Yea, I think a wait maybe a year or more is in order.

3D is a bit 'tech savy' exclusive at the minute (I like my tech but 3D can be a bit confusing :)), when it goes mainstream d more options and content should be there, as well as better content and hardware.

No doubts about 3D being a hit though.
