Baldur's Gate, as it defined WRPGs.

In that regard I would say Ultima, as it defined the entire RPG genre. Heck, even Dragon Quest, the daddy of the JRPG sub-genre, is massively inspired by Ultima (and Wizardry too)

Lord British, we bow to thee.

I'll sat redefined then, as it's more accurate anyway.

Nah, I'm not trying to correct you. I also believe that Baldur's Gate defined what a WRPG should stand for, and pretty much, no other WRPG has managed to hold a package so complete and close to the WRPG ideals as the Baldur's Gate series.

Lunar: SSC, not even close.
Lunar TSS, slighty more chances, but still no.
Lunar EB (Sega CD, doh) is my favorite JRPG.

I'm really boring: no game in particular.

Actually that's quite a naive generalization. Why should FF be synonym to RPG for everyone? Heck, when someone says something about RPG's, there's quite a number of series that I think of before I even consider FF.

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals is my favourite game of all time, so it's normal that's the first RPG that I think off or that comes to my mind whenever RPG is mentioned. Parasite Eve comes close at second.

FF is not the RPG standard.

Just because you don't like it or it's not the best doesn't mean it can't be the standard.  Often it is those things that exactly what something shouldn't be is the standard.  They've become so watered down and everyone knows them and they just become the standard.

For instance, what do you think when I saw musical, Broadway show, or even opera?

Was it Phantom of the Opera or any other Andrew Lloyd Webber show?  I wouldn't be surprised since most people think that or Cats or Jesus Christ Superstar.  The funny thing about that is that almost everyone that actually likes Broadway shows despises Andrew Lloyd Webber and everything he is.

Whatever the case and however much they despise them, stuff like Phantom of the Opera has become the musical standard even though it clearly aren't the best or even close to it.  The same goes for Final Fantasy.
