Forums - Sony - What's happening to my PS3?

Okay..

I'm playing Rock Band 2 earlier today, I have the guitar piece plugged in and i'm waiting in the online lobby for people to join in the group.

All of the sudden the screen starts to lag a bit, boom.. PS3 turns off, just as it turns itself off I see the yellow light for like half a second. Then the lights blink red.

I turn it back on, it stays for like 10 seconds, shuts off.. Red lights blinking again.

So I was just playing Rock Band 2 again like 5 minutes ago for about 30 minutes, boom.. waiting in the lobby again, here we go again, shuts off, red blinking lights.

There is no solid yellow light, so that's a good sign.. But what's going on? Is it overheating? And could it be Rock Band lobbies fucking my PS3 up? Possibly overheating it?

I heard it blinks red when it gets overheated.

If anyone has some suggestions, that would be great, or could englighten me on what's happening.

BTW- 60GB Launch model.

maybe it's just breaking down? Do you use it alot?

Yah your PS3 is over heating

Make sure nothing is around it and get a can of compressed air to make sure you clean out any dust build up on the vents.

If that does not help put a box fan in front of your unit and use the fan to cool it down while you play.

No actually, i have been busy for the last couple of months so i'm not using it as much.

Every couple hours now and then.

Not like I used to be.. Hours on end, daily.. Years ago.

Can you hear the fan running?  It may be busted, causing your ps3 to overheat shortly after it's turned on.

Blinking light is overheating. Be careful though, mine did that and the power supply blew as soon as i turned it back on. Make sure its in a well ventilated area and clean out the vents and you should be fine.

Go get your PS3 cleaned, I think it's because of dust that your PS3 is overheating. Actually it happened to me a thousand of times with my PS2. It costs fifty bucks and you won't have problems with it anymore for one year of two.
