Forums - Gaming - Hulu coming to PS3 in July, 360 in 2011

From http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/29/hulu-plus-launching-on-ps3-soon-xbox-360-in-early-2011/

"Finally. FINALLY. Hulu comes to game consoles. Hulu's just-announced $9.99/month Hulu Plus service, available now on PC, iPhone, and other devices, will be visible on PlayStation 3 systems "soon" -- July, according to the Hulu Plus guided tour. In addition, it'll launch on Xbox 360 sometime in early 2011. The company has yet to announce a release date for the service, although if it'll be available on PS3 in July, that provides a pretty good clue. In the meantime, you can request an invitation to an early preview here.

In addition to enabling playback on various boxes, Hulu Plus features full seasons of current ABC, NBC, and Fox television shows, in HD -- none of that "five trailing episodes" business. Learn more about the new Hulu Plus service here. If you need us, we'll be gathering more information about this service, and also canceling our cable TV."

It is unclear whether you will be required to have hulu plus to get hulu on your consoles or if hulu will come onto the consoles free (as it does now with PCs) and that hulu plus just allows access to different content.  I guess we'll see soon!

Paying $10/month to watch network TV shows (which are free OTA) doesn't seem to be worth it.  Sure, Hulu gives you "DVR like" abilities for a whole season, but meh.  I doubt this would really be a cable TV replacement as the selection is too small and not day and date for TV shows.

I really hope that there is a hulu app for the consoles that allows access to the free hulu content and that hulu isn't required for the application.

Hopefully the delay to the 360 version is because they want to add Kinect functionality

Because they wouldn't be able to add that functionality with a patch later?

Seems unlikely that that would be the reason for the 360 delay.

And if it costs $10 a month I won't be getting it...

"We are taking the time to ensure that the Hulu Plus experience for Xbox 360 is the best on TV, and like our other entertainment experiences, it will not be a port, but rather a custom experience that leverages the Xbox LIVE community features."

Hope they add this to PSN = epic win...

None of that actually hints at Kinect, though...

I'm pretty excited for when this comes to the 360... Between nexflix and hulu plus, I'll be cancelling cable...

If the applications/firmware updates allow you to view free hulu content, then I'm all for this.  I am not going to be buying hulu at all, so I hope they won't gip us free users.  Maybe if it offered every single network ever  (or at least just all that I use) with episode just a few days later than on cable then I'd be down, but until then, no go for me.
