Forums - Sony - Benefits of buying a slim

The Xbox 360 Slim is a horizontal purchase where you gain looks (I think it looks like a cheap, ugly Alienware wannabe), less power consumption, automatic shutoff of the console if the console gets too hot, and quiet. On the downside, you lose backward compatibility (huge for me because I love Fable, Halo, Halo 2 and other Xbox games), looks (the original model is very sensuous with nice curves and no gills on the side for ventilation), and USB ports.

If you already have a working Xbox 360, then this purchase is about as practical as buying a PS2 Slim when you have a working PS2. In other words, you were duped by the marketing and hype.

Finally, I have read reviews stating the Xbox 360 Slim is deeper than the original model meaning if you lay it down horizontal in an entertainment center, then you will not be able to push it back into the cabinet as deep as you could with the original model.

It might help if you look what forum you're in and if you actually read the OP.

This is also the first I've heard that the new 360 loses what BC it had.  I've searched around and I saw nothing on else that, are you sure you're not just making that up?

As for it being deeper, I don't know how else to put it other than you're just flat out wrong there and whatever review you read was wrong too.

Also, I forgot to ask-- what do you mean by getting $200 back?

I haven't actually sold my old PS3 because it's technically still working and I plan to sell it around Christmas for at least $300.

well i bought it for $500 and when i called best buy they said they will send me a best buy card containing $540. And the new ps3 slim is only $300!!!

Why are they sending you a Best Buy card though?

Ofcourse i would do it as far as I understood it you get a 540 Dollar BestBuy Card if you send in your old PS3 Phat ?

Thats the best deal I could imagine. Buy a Slim PS3 which will last longer and a Slim PS2 and 3 new games for PS3. Or am i mistaken ?

I am about to call best buy to replace my MGS4 80gb PS3 for a slim. With the replacement i will also be getting $200. Now i am a little upset because i am loosing backwards compatibitlity, 2 usb ports, memory card reader that i actually use, and a nice sleek design. Can someone actually tell me some benefits of owning a slim? Does it have better audio, ports, anything at all? Is it only a downgrade?

dont do it yet theres a new ps3 model about to release cech2500 id say about september -october the new model will have wireless N and bigger HDD also the current 120gb will probably go down to 250$ to clear them out

the benefits of the slim is that it uses way less power than ur fat and is less likely to ylod your model is very prone to ylod as it has both 90nm cell and rsx

Not only that but he's also wrong when it comes to USB ports.  The original models has 3, and the Slim has 5.

Never heard of the loss of BC as well.

no after the 2100 was passed it took like 3 months for to hit stores it came out quicker in JP though i ecpext them to annouce when MS announces 360s arcade sony will drop the 120gb to 250$ and the new 250gb slims will be at 300$ like in 08 when the 80g replaced the 40gb fats same price but difreent HDD the only things we know about the 2500 is that it has 250gb and wireless n dont be suprised if they added more usbs or even ps2 B/C i think this b/c the big jump in sku number 2100 to 2500 it must mean alot of shit is diffrent about it more usbs makes sence b/c of PS move will take up
