Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy XIV (Official Thread)

So it's time for bad news and funny news.

First, the bad.

FFXI and FFXIV both have terrible version update tools.  They're just awful.  With FFXI you just had to deal with it but with FFXIV there was a glimmer of hope!  Since it was just a single .patch file that used a torrent you could download these files from places like MegaUpload and other torrent sites.  Being able to download things at a good speed is a good thing!  Well, apparently SE is cracking down on anyone advertising links to those patches and asking everyone to remove those links.  As an extra screw you to customers, they're also cracking down on the windower.

Fuck off SE.  It's like they're just trying to make people not want to play their game.

Now, the funny.

It appears as though there's a bug that if you view the credits, you break your game and cannot log in.  You have to uninstall and then reinstall the game if you simply view the credits.  I told that to one of the testers here and he got a giant kick out of that one.  Every game has bugs but that's a pretty hard one and a big one to miss.

-edit-

I guess I can end with some good-- the FFXIV main song is pretty awesome.  Too bad I can't find anywhere to download it because I would happily buy this.

The game itself is very fun. However the market system they have in place is probably one of the worst conceived ideas ever. To me it is game-breaking. I will still play and all, but I see people quitting in mass if they don't find another way for us to buy/sell.

I'm just curious. What do you find 'very fun' in the game? I myself bought the game Tuesday morning (EST). I've been playing it for roughly 10-12 hours in total since then, rank 9 pugilist, physical lvl 10. After playing XI for 6 years, I can't see whats enjoyable about this game. I'm on the Selbina server, character is Noctis Omega. It's extremely laggy, buggy, hardly enough people who speak fluent english to communicate with, not enough information on what to do with the beginning of the game (I began in Ul'dah, I have no idea what to do after the second storyline quest), and I can't find anyone to party with (not enough english-fluent speaking players, or even, people who communicate well enough). I'm upset with this game, I had high hopes after the beta. Graphics and areas are absolutely gorgeous, no complaints there. I hate the chat log, and the fact that it isn't expandable ( button in XI). I hate that they took away /follow and ctrl r to reply to someone in /tell. The little details that made the most mental-stability significance were taken out; why? I don't know. Crafting is cool, but, I don't want to craft items to gain physical experience. Also, I don't understand why they put all the crafts as classes. In reality, there's only 7 fighting jobs, which, are not too bad. I'm not a fan of the fighting system being shown as macros, I appreciated it much more, in a final-fantasy styled list of job abilities of weapon skills. Here it feels like a mess, that you're responsible for. Meh, this is just an off the top of my head rant; what do you, and everyone else think of the game?

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Market system?

Not sure why that could be game breaking but ok.

There are seas of retainers in the market wards. There is litterally no way to find what you want. You have to go through each one 1 by 1 and hope. It's ridiculously slow. and for a game that depends on crafters for the economy it's just not worth the effort.

It will be fixed in time. Otherwise i'm having fun though.

Hopefully it will be.

How is the story?

Storys great :)

What I find fun is playing though the missions and leveling up, its all a work in progress. close/open beta was much more chaotic. i'm pretty sure onces the standard edition is released the biggest issues now will be resolved.

With so many bugs to fix, its no wonder they delay the ps3 version. still, the ps3 version might have bugs of its own when that is released i bet lol.

By missions you mean guildleves? Are you doing them just for your starting class? Or for multiple? Which city did you start out in? How many quests did you do for your beginning city?  And, yea, work in progress is exactly what it is haha

The ctrl r to reply someone actually works. Though its not like FF11 where you just press ctrl r. In FFXIV you have to press space bar first to go into the chat window then press ctrl r to reply to that person. I wish /follow still worked or if it does i dont know how they made it to work now.

I find the game to be fantastic. The story missions can only be done every 10 levels, (physical lvl 1, 10, 20, 30 and so on). You just have to keep going back to the person in the adventurers guild that gave you the first one.

Now the thing i really hate about this game is the crafting. You cannot use just 1 craft to make something. Every craft requires materials from other crafts (i.e like leatherworking needs yarn from weavers) so you have to spend time leveling both then finally when you are of good level you have to constantly grind creatures, mines, trees etc just to be able to make hempen gear which is like starter gear. Come on i dont want to spend a whole day grinding for materials only to finally get them and have a chance of failing after all that time spent. I can understand if this was for HIGH end gear but not starter gear that everyone needs to upgrade to in order to have a fighting chance at the lvl 10-20 leves solo. That is my only gripe with it so far.

Oh wait.. also the lack of anybody wanting to party or help out. You shout out for a party and nobdy responds, you ask for a linkshell recruiting and nobody responds. You even use the search party tool and find practically nothing at all (maybe 3 parties if that). My server is always full with players and i always see parties and linkshells. I keep wondering how these people find them or are the FF11 players such elitist that they wont bother helping new players to FF online games. Hate to say but i never had such a problem on WoW. The community there was more helpful and alive.

Well i'm not lagging at all aside from server lag. Your on one of the most populated servers though.

Hey Wagram i have an idea.

Can you update the op to list the server each player is on and their character name in game? If we all put that down here maybe we can find VG players we can party with that are on the same server that way we can party together or create a linkshell. What do you think?

I'll start it off.

Server: Trabia

Character name: Saya Minatsuki

BTW twestern thanks for that link to the FFXIV "Answers" OST. I have listened to it 6 times in a row now. This game has a fantastic soundtrack.

Yes you do - very much

Although, the bug that makes me the most mad.. seriously I want to punch a fucking baby is the one where you attack an enemy and they turn "purple" as in someone else claimed them.. but they didn't you are fighting it and it hits you but you cant hit it back unless you run away for a bit until it turns red...

They need to fix that ASAP..

Oh and holy fucking crap - Conjurers will be getting nerf bat up their ass soon.. seriously OP - loving it right now - once I hit level 6 conjurer and got stoneskin roflmao - game over that shit is way OP

Server: Besaid
Town: Gridania
Name: Tanstalas Asura

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos
