Forums - Gaming - Gizmodo seeks flame: "Why It's Sad Sony Lost the Videogame Hardware Race "

This will likely be a very popular thread for all the wrong reasons.  Shame, because this was an interesting read if you can separate yourself from the products you buy.  Can that possibly happen here . . . . . . ?

Why It's Sad Sony Lost the Videogame Hardware Race

E3's biggest loser? It's Sony. They've been lagging behind for years overall, but to lose athardware, their strongest suit? What a pity. More »

I'm a Sony fanboy, and this article didn't make me angry. Motion control is the least of my concerns when it comes to gaming. I'd much prefer to continue to see great games. They aren't behind or at a lower level as far as hardware is concerned, they just haven't been pumping out a new version of PSP every six months like Nintendo and the DS. Yet, like I said motion control and mobile gaming aren't for me. Love being a console gamer. So, I can understand that they haven't done much for advancing and evolving the hardware since the PSP and PS3, they are still near/at the top of the pile with tech specs.

we'll see....WE WILL SEE.

The PSP has had 4 revisions like the DS has. What are you talking about?

Also, they are riding on the 3D bandwagon forcing it's own fanbase to buy 3D $3,000 Tvs and wants the Wii market to upgrade to their Move MotionPlus remote. They aren't failing, they are just trying to catch up.

There are as many revisions of the PSP (1000, 2000, 3000, Go) as the DS (Phat, Lite, DSi, XL), but there are more significant changes between DS models.

This oversight, with its liberal helping of hyperbole, makes for a low-quality post.

this article is a bunch of BS. I havent touched my 360 since Mass Effect 2 which was all the way back in January. Its been sitting there collecting dust as my PS3 has been used a lot more.

I'm not discounting the PSP has had remodels but they also aren't producing the older models, correct if I'm wrong but the original DS is still on the market as are all of it's upgrades. My point is that that's too many on the market at once. I'll concede it if they were the same. 3D isn't really 'new' technology, though, it's just chic technology. I would love it if Sony saw the market turn against them on  3D. It's too gimmicky. It's semantics whether they are behind on hardware. They are behind on new hardware, just not technically. Not trying to put down Nintendo or anything, and like I said, I don't do mobile gaming or know much about it, so you guys win with that argument. As long as we keep getting awesome games, we can all be happy.

Sony isn't forcing me to buy a 3D TV.  I can play the same great games on the same great TV that I already own (future releases included).

Basically, what I do is this. If the person writing an article compares the Wii without Wii Motion to either Kinect or Move, I assume that the author is too stupid to dress himself, much less write a choesive argument.

Moving the hell along

Interesting article.  I liked it in the facts that it stated.  Nintendo only making hardware to deliver it's games that are most important.  MS making hardware to push it's software which is what it's all about.  And Sony failing to sell the hardware which is what sony is all about.  Thanks for the post.  I've stated before, my whole entertainment system is sony but I have no desire to get a new 3D TV any time soon.  I am still happy with DVD for movies.  The two TVs in my house that I will be replacing sometime soon will be sony but definitely NOT 3D.  Just have no desire to go that road.  I'm waiting to watch Toy Story 3 when it's at a theatre without 3D.  Guess I'm getting old with habits but that's me.  Love Sony Hardware and electronics but this article was definitely worth reading for that point.
