Forums - Microsoft - A Kinect thread by a 360 fan. Shock?!

Hey fellow 360 fans. Thought I'd stop to take a look at Kinect and get a feel for it's coming release. Those of you here with families ( daughters, sons, wives etc ) are you intending to buy?

With Kinect bundles looking more and more likely to be priced wonderfully I may wait till Novemember to get my new 360.

M$ are making an Arcade version of the new 360. What it will contain is anyones guess. But it is probably likely to arrive alongside Kinect itself.

The games I intend to buy for my family and me are in my sig. My 3 year old daughter loved Kinectimals. And I could have some great fun with my wife on Kinect Adventures and Joyride.

For me I'm looking forward to Star Wars and Forza Kinect ( I would like them to add the headtracking to Forza 3 ).

I also cannot wait to view films and entertainment with just my voice and hands. It is definately going to change the way I use my entertainment. I will now buy alot more HD films on Live to keep. It's something you simply cannot get anywhere else. Fantastic technology here.

Dance Central will be really my wifes game. She loves dancing every Thursday. And this has her really interested.

I can see alot of family fun with this device. And cannot wait to try it instore in October at my local GAME.

Those of you with families, whats your thought?

I'm too impatient on this sort of thing, so I'll be trading in my elite next month. Buying Kinect at launch.

My neice and nephew already love coming round every other weekend to play lips, Sonic racing and .. XBLA games.

They go hyper just looking at ricochet, can't wait to show them the new stuff!

They also love MKVSDC, I think the new Mortal Kombat is too gory for them though

My girlfriend is gonna love it.  Your Shape is gonna be the best fitness game on the market.  Dance Central is gonna be the best dance game on the market.  I don't care for either, but she will definitely.  I will probably get Kinect Sports and Child of Eden.

@ Seece and JaggedSac.

My wife commented on something. She pointed out that at first it seems like a Wii cash in. But she then said when you realise it's the entire body, it changes everything.

Dance mats for example are merely 4 or 8 points for your feet. Or she said any Wii game is essentially only an arm movement.

But she likes the fact the Dance game is moves based on your entire body position. Shes sees it as very advanced. Not just a gimmick copy.

Interesting. She has a point. Dance Central is impossible on any other system.

I hope game makers continue with entire body games rather than simple arm and hand gestures. Kinect real strength is in it's 3d 48 point skeletal movement.

Yup, this annihilates all dancing games with mats and controllers.

No more restrictions, freestyle dancing, if this gets advertised heavily, it could be a killer app.

For sure, it deserves to sell better than Just Dance.

Absolutely.  Games that take advantage of the entire body to provide the experience are what will make the really cool Kinect games.  Soccer will be neat.  I am really impressed with the Your Shape UI, using the body as a framework for the menu items, and the fact that they are not using MS's skeletal system.  They are using tech they were working on before MS showed them Kinect.  A kickboxing game would be neat and only doable on Kinect.  Clever developers are going to be making some really interesting stuff in the coming year.

I have to say (and this is as neither a huge 360 fan or Kinect fan) that Kinect is basically perfect for dance games. Short of proper VR it's hard to think of a control interface which would be better for that style of game. I'm putting it down that if the Kinect has any killer app it will be Dance Central or a game like it.

Love your sig. I cant wait for what Molyneux said about. Also Fable 3 is confirmed to use Kinect to. Excellent.

I wonder if Rare is working on Killer Instict 3. Hmmmm.

Kinect has alot more to come and show over the next 6 months.

At the moment I'm more excited for the menu navigation with gestures and voice commands, then most of the revealed games.  Though I'm sure the dance game will be a guilty pleasure...behind closed blinds.  Alas, I still dream of the possibilities for this in a strategy game - I want to draw invisible boxes to select groups of units and say 'attack' to change the cursor from waypoint mode, make it happen MS.
