Valve Announces Steam for PS3 At E3 Show

16 June, 2010, by James Cullimore

Valve, the US-based games developer, has announced that Portal 2, the long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster game Portal, will coming to the PlayStation 3.

The company also announced that its online gaming and content delivery platform Steamworks would also be made available for the PS3.

Speaking during Sony's press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Valve president Gabe Newell said that the Sony gaming platform is by far the most open console in the market.

Newell went on to express his excitement at bringing Steamworks to the PS3..

Calling the PS3 the "best console ever", Newell admitted he had been one of the greatest critics of the device when it first launched.

Explaining his conversion, Newell said: “Sony Computer Entertainment has proved that the PlayStation 3 is the most open platform of all the current generation consoles and has worked extremely hard to make the platform the most desirable for consumers and developers.”

could you post the link please! so that way we can get this clarified!

because i found this:

UPDATE: A follow up/clarification – Steam Cloud is not offering cross platform play, just auto-updates and community functions.. what a waste. I mean PSN already has most of that without Steam’s help.

than you have this:

Update: Valve has sent along a press release confirming Steamworks integration in the PS3 version -- the only console version featuring that functionality, actually -- providing the game with "auto updates, community features, downloadable content, and more."

i know about steamworks

but sofar there has been no confirmation about steam itself

here:

Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve, took to the stage during Sony's presentation at the Electronic Entertainment Expo to announce that not just Portal 2 but also the Steam Network will come to PlayStation 3.

Newell's company had teased fans and pundits in the weeks leading up to the Expo by first replacing a scheduled press conference with a "surprise", and then cancelling the surprise.

Gabe also enthused about PlayStation 3 users being able to enjoy benefits of the Steam Network that are already available to gamers that use PC and Mac computers.

The sequel to the multi-award winning Portal is currently due to be released in 2011, after the initial late 2010 target was pushed back in order to polish the finished gameplay experience.

It is also being developed for PC, Mac, and Xbox 360.

so by this it may be STEAM NETWORK made for console's so not just steamworks
