Sony: No plans for another PS3 pricecut or a new PSP

SCEE’s Andrew House has put his boot into rumors over a new PSP model, and a possible price-cut for PS3.

Speaking with VG247’s Nathan Grayson at E3, House said the company’s main focus right now is to support the systems it already has instead of making new ones.

“[We've got] no plans to discuss anything around next generation right now,” he said when asked about the PSP2 rumors.

“I think it’s important that we keep our focus on building great content for the great devices we have out now”.

Well, what about a price-cu then? No dice, apparently.

“I would say that we would have announced that today if we had plans to do so in the immediate future,” he said.

You can read our full interview with House through here.

you know. when they said this before... they back up after a while

Do i really need to look for Reggie saying there won't be Wii price cut just a few months before it happened ?

Seriously when will people realize than no sane corporation confirms price drop rumors because it kills profits and sales up to the point of release of new device or new pricing.

I love it when people post this like its absolute proof it isn't coming EVAER!!!!

lol. Of course they'll say that until the day they are ready to state its true.

They have plans already drawn up for how and when they want to do the next 5 price cuts as well as next two iterations for the PSP and PS4.

It's just not today is really all they are saying.

Plus, the thread title is wrong. His quote says they are not ready to 'discuss' it today. Not that no plans exist.

yeah misleading titles ftw:p My guess is psp2 at tgs

Probably holding off on the SKU shift until the 500 gig models are ready in large numbers. The new 40nm 120 gig models just barely started to hit stores a month or two ago. It would be pointless to end that production line so quickly. They'll probably launch the 500 gig models alongside GT5 at $350 and push the the 120 and 250 down to $250 and $300 respectively. Or potentially they could keep the 120 around for a while to counter the Kinect launch. Infact I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what they do. By that time they would probably barely be losing anything at $250 which would probably be more than offset by the $400 Move bundle. The actual difference in production cost between a 120 gig HDD and a 500 gig HDD for Sony is pretty minimal. And leading into the holidays that would probably be just the push they need to hit their 15 million projection.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Obviously they won't announce a price cut, if any is scheduled. OTOH, they'd announce a new portable at a big show like E3, if it were close to release, so, PSP2 is most probably still far away, a price cut we won't know until it happens, or at most a few days before, as usual.
