cool. never played sly cooper.

where exactly does it fall in the ratchet and jak universe. I mean in terms of gameplay. Similarities? differences?...

Eh, not all that similar. Sly is a hell of a lot more focused on actual platforming than either Jak or Ratchet. Actually has quite strong AI, too (compared to other platformers) thanks to the pseudo-stealth nature of the games. Boss fights are very much more similar to Crash Bandicoot, and the portal nature of the level system quite similar to the 3D Mario games.

These things, along with the brilliant comic-book style artwork, and above average voice acting makes it a superior series to Ratchet; it doesn't quite have the same explosive high-action gameplay, though, of the later Jak games.

Certainly underrated.

Sounds interesting

That really sounds awesome!!... thanks for the info. You've hyped me up for this game now.

I think the character lacks appeal compared to jak or ratchet. Could that be why it's a lot less known?

Didn't some critics find Ratchet every unlikable in the first game?  Gamespy actally preferred Sly Copper to Rachet when their first games originally came out.  Sly Cooper didn't sell very well initially because Ratchet was getting the hype at the time.

Ratchet was coming from a much higher pedigree developer. Insomniac had a massive IP the previous generation with Spyro. Literally one of the biggest names of the PS1. Sucker Punch had some small title on then N64.

Honestly, I think it's Insomniac's name that made Ratchet successful. I thought the first one was  average (especially when compared to the first Jak, and the first Sly), the series got better with time - but, if it wasn't for Insomniac's history, I don't think it would have been given a chance.
