Forums - Microsoft - Why Kinect/conference may work for MS (and why it may not)

5.  PRICE>>>>  my kid cries out for the fun Kinect stuff.  If I am starting from scratch with no console, $299 $149 plus games is a lot for what the Wii is doing, albeit, I'd argue, less successfully at this point.

Depends on how many kids you have and if you want to play with them. Kinetic has no controllers so you would save on mulitplayer games (when you hit 3-4 players probably).

The wife loved Shape, Dance Central, and River Rush.

Yeah i agree with a lot of what has been said, this isnt meant for us, its meant for kids and families, people who probabily dont know much about E3. but the key this is whether this is what those people want?? its going to be the same price as a brand new Wii and that already comes with a massive library, so we'll have to wait and see how the casual market take it.

Price will definitely be an issue, especially if they do not bundle it with a console.

The software announced so far is what I pretty much expected, although I was expecting at least 1 Rare title that utilized Kinect in a unique way that no one has currently thought of.  I was impressed by Ubisoft's usage of the depth map and the body to create an intuitive interface.  These are things that will set Natal apart.

What are the reactions of pepole who already have a Wii (especially Wii Fit) or pepole with Nintendogs to this?

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

We all know what microsoft was going for,but I think it's to little to late. Same goes for the move. To the next gen I guess.

Good analysis. Glad to see people have common sense on this forum...

I am in the same boat as you (only late 20s :) ) and Kinect does nothing when it comes to gaming for me so far from what we've seen. However, as a media control device...oh man, that thing is awesome.

You see, I'm a lazy bum when it comes to video games. I sometimes don't play the game I want because I'm to lazy to change the disc :)

I will gladly pay 100 bucks to have this motion control addon for my movies, and xbox live browsing. And if a bunch of cool games come along as well...I won't be too upset.

Otherwise there is still tonnes of core software that X360 owner will get to play only on that console this year. Alan Wake DLC, Crackdown 2, Summer of arcade (which looks freekin amazing), Halo Reach, Fable 3... on top of the shared 3rd party games.

Now for 2011, they need to show us more love than Gears 3, but I'm sure they are working on that. I mean, they better...

believe or not Metal Gear Ben over at ScrewAttack got all offended at me saying E3 was a trade show. I don't see how stating the obvious is so horrible.

The key for companies like Microsoft is to MAKE them want it, whether they think they do or not.   That's what sales and marketing is all about.  To that end, I think they are off to a good start with pushing this slowly and consistently in the mainstream media over the past year.  As to the Wii library, I'd argue that it's less important than the HD twins library, in that the casuals aren't buying a crapton of games.  They are buying Mario Kart and New SMBWii and Wii Sports Resort and WiiFit and one or two other games over the course of three years - a shooter or Just Dance or sports or something, depending on taste.  Yes there is a core Nintendo audience that eats up software, but that's not who's being targeted here.

I'm very interested to see how this all shakes out.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Yeah i'm interested in seeing how this plays out as well, we'll see how the casual market takes it. i think it could be quite popular because the games on it do look good for kids and families. but we'll see, there are some factors against it, like price point etc.
