Report: Microsoft Talking 3D Gaming "Soon"

Sony has been making a big deal about 3D. So too has Nintendo. Until now, Microsoft has been fairly silent on the subject. Looks like that's about to change.

Andrew Oliver from Blitz (Dead to Rights Retribution) has told Develop "Microsoft are going to be making an announcement about [3D] at some point soon."

Great. Et tu, Microsoft?

No timeframe was given, but with E3 beginning next week, that seems as good a time as any for the company to jump onto the 3D bandwagon.

Microsoft will announce its 3D plan 'soon' [Develop]

It seems like the 3D generation is beggining....(lol for the the image)

Reason Ms is silent is because they have no money to make off 3D.

The best dividens they could hope for by introducing 3D is to boost sales of the console slightly. However to do that, they have to make it a lot more user friendly than PS3.

There are 6 million existing 3D TV owners who can't use the PS3, not because their TV is not capable of showing 3D which PS3 is outputting...but because PS3 will not even turn 3D on unless your TV has HDMI 1.4.

There are also many millions of 120 hz monitor owners, CRT owners and projector users who can do 3D gaming but are left out in the cold for with the PS3 since it requires HDMI 1.4.

If 360 is able to introduce 3D which works for these users, it will easily make a bigger impact than PS3, which requires you to buy a brand new TV.

Maybe this is what Microsoft has in store for 3-D?

It would explain all the hush-hush about Natal and why we have only seen the "Ball" game so far.  It could also explain the rumored $150 price tag.  Motion controls and 3-D for $150 would be awfully cheap.

Hmmm, interesting, maybe. i dont see it happening personally, but it would explain all the hype about these new motion controls. and i have heard M$ are linked with LG for 3D tvs.

then again 3D isnt something i see being successful straight away, it will take a few years to build momentium. although it does seem very cool, being able to realistically move through a game.

PS3 is HDMI 1.3

and HDMI 1.4 is backward compatible

PS3 will work with HDMI 1.3 3D TV's just that almost all new 3DTV's are HDMI 1.4

Actually, I think the biggest hinderence to 3D gaming is simply the glasses, that's where Nintendo got things right.

on a big TV without glass the 3Dimage will only be available if you sit stright infront of the screen.not so much on a small screen
