Sony responds to Greenberg's statment#1

PS3 hardware’s performing strongly then, but how do you feel first party PS3 software’s doing? Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg suggested yesterday that Halo 3 has outsold a large number of PS3 games – including the Uncharted and Resistance franchises - combined, based on NPD figures.

Well I’m really happy with them because as I said, we’re selling more than we ever have done before. Secondly, I’m not too fussed about the competitive bits or people’s comments because at the end of the day, I’ve only got my focus, and that is giving consumers a great experience and great content and I don’t care what anybody else does. If we are doing that and if we are measured by the enjoyment and the engagement that we have with our consumers and we can have a successful business then that’s what it will be. Our DNA is about innovation and giving people technology that they didn’t even realise they needed at the time and about pushing the envelope.

FABULOUS RESPONSE SONY!
Very mature!

Seriously Sony WTF stop stealing Nintendo's strategy. This sounds almost identical to Nintendo's statements released when Sony was calling the Wii a gimmicl. I mean honestly innovative and giving people new technology. If he's refering to the Wiimot.... I mean Move then I can't help but laugh at his arrogance.

Sony has in the past been very immature in regards to the Wii I remember Sony execs going all out calling it a gimmick and talking trash. During that occasion Microsoft was more mature and so was Nintendo but Sony was a little whinning baby.I remember the PSP announcement and how degrading and insulting it was to the GameBoy:Advance. Sony execs actually called the GameBoy crap I remember hearing it in the post E3 round tables and interviews. Sony was very arrogant saying the age of crap was coming to an end and Sony was revolutionalizing the handheld industry. They were so confident they through tons of insults Nintendo's way.

I'm not meaning to trash Sony but they seem to always act arrogant and insult the competition. I mean just look at the Move ads. Kevin Butler makes the Wiimote sound and look like crap in the trailer where he whips his hands up and down. Fact is Sony has never been mature in the past and this one comment just seems like a stolen strategy.

I can gaurantee if Sony's software sold as well as Microsoft or Nintendo's that they would be doing the exact same thing Microsoft is. Sony always bragged during the PS2 era they bragged about the PS3/PSP at E3 when they were first unvieled.

So Sony eat your humble pie and shut your smack talking mouth. Yes this one statement was very mature but in all in all Sony has been a smack talking childish company. The only reason their being so mature today is because they can't do anything but be mature everyone would just laugh at them if they bragged about PS3 or PSP!

Yes, Sony is stealing the strategy of "Not sounding like an ass."

Yah, because Sony almost always sounds like an Ass. Just listen to the E3 2006 conferance or Sony's other conferances like the unvieling of PSP. Its not like Sony to act mature so they are taking a note from Nintendo and acting like mature adults for once.

I hate to say it but Sony is definatly influenced by Nintendo in this statement they issued just look at the text. "Our DNA is about innovation and giving people technology that they didn’t even realise they needed at the time and about pushing the envelope." What technology are they providing people that pushes the envelope, what innovation exactly? Sony is mimicking Nintendo in almost every part of this statement. Take a look at Reggie, Miyamoto and Iwata's responses after E3 2006. You could take multiple Nintendo statements and put them alongside this one and you'd never be able to guess which ones were made by Iwata and which ones are Sony.

It's way to similiar to Nintendo's responses.

Then maybe you should actually read THIS thread. No one here is talking about what Sony USED to do. I know they used to be a little stuck up like Aaron Greenburg. But we are talking about Sony NOW. They are actually being civil rather than turning into 2 year olds. and get the everyone's copying Nintendo thing off your back it's just stupid.

I don't think everyones copying Nintendo, I think Sony is copying Nintendo. I don't say Microsoft, Apple are copying Nintendo. Not everyone copies Nintendo and by Aaron Greenburg's recent statements they aren't copying Nintendo's diplomatic way of saying things either.

Yes this thread is about the one statement a Sony exec makes and not what almost every other Sony exec has said within the last 4-5 years. Its about how a Sony exec says one mature statement and he deserves praise for being brave enough to be mature at Sony.

Lets talk Sony right now, how about Kevin Butlers Move ad in which he clearly insults Nintendo's motion controls. That is online and on TV right now. How mature are those ads? Yes I know ActivisionBlizzard is insulting MarioKart in their Blur ads as well. But just because one company has to resort to immaturity doesn't mean Sony has the right to follow suit.

How mature is Kevin Butlers Move ads? That is Sony right now.

Actually, that wasn't on TV. It was only online.

Kevin Butler's ad's are funny, and if you haven't noticed, those commercials have attracted a LOT of attention. That's what you need to do to sell a product, do something people will talk about and find interest in.

Actually, Sony had EyeToy even before any of them. And they are adding motion controls to it, OHHH, so much copying!

Hey, Sony was the first to do dual analog sticks on one controller, guess what? Nintendo and Microsoft both have a controller that has two analog sticks.

OMG THEY COPIED SONY, who cares?

Point being, the gaming industry isn't exactly the industry where "copying" really matters. It only matters to the people who are immature.

Oh yeah, Aaron Greenburg has to grow up and stop prancing that your company is "beating" them in sales, espescially on the console's MAIN franchise and is advertised like HELL.

People are calling Sony's response mature because they don't give a damn about Microsoft's sales, they are focusing on SONY. Greenburg seems to only care that they are beating Sony in sales.

Dual analog sticks came after Nintendo implemented analog sticks. So in the end Sony just copied twice. Also the Eye Toy itself was not the first interactive video game camera, remember the GameBoy Camera came out before Eye Toy. I dare you to name a single technology that PlayStation did not copy from Nintendo or Sega?

As for the Kevin Butler ads being funny, yah they are funny and yes they do push product, keep in mind Nintendo has had hilarious ads for the GameCube and GBA.

I'm with you on that! It's like after the bully gets his ass kicked. Now all of a sudden he tries to play nice and makes friends. I would respect Sony more if they stayed true to who they are.

nintendo try to do that with third parties and failed. twice.

Dual Analog sticks on one controller was first done by Sony. I know there was analog sticks before that.

Also, Microsoft has copied alot, why do you jab at Sony? They aren't the only ones who "copy". Microsoft has copied ALOT. Hell, a bunch of Xbox's game's were once Sony games, they even get the same games as Sony does, after Sony does.

Was GameBoy Camera able to sense motion? I don't think it was.

Holy sweet Jesus Kid, Fanboy much? And please don't deny it because all of your replys in this thread absolutely screams Sony-hater or Nintendo-lover. Sure representatives of companies go out of their way to knock on competition. Its a common practice. We live in a bite or get-chewed world. It happens all the time. Call the employees immature, call them stupid. But all in all, they're supporting their respective companies by attacking the competition. I guess it comes with the pay. Plus, maybe just MAYBE this thread got alot of positive responses because people like the new direction that Sony might be taking. I guess alot of us are feed up with the company having a lot of bark but not bite ( pun un-intended ). Time for Nintendo to grow a freaking backbone if you ask me.

Nintendo didn't insult Sony at their press conferances, nor in their commercials.

I don't hate Sony but I do love Nintendo. I own a PS3 and a PSP and like some of Sony's software like LittleBigPlanet for example. However I must agree out of the three Sony is my least favorite. My displeasure with Sony is based on the fact that they are not the same company they were when they started with the PSOne. I loved playing Rayman , Spyro, Twisted Metal and Crash back in the day though I never owned a PSOne myself. In the end Sony two of the properties I enjoyed Crash and Spyro and since then just hasn't created software I am too interested in.

As for my additude about Sony being arrogant and childish. I had alot of respect for Sony till they unvieled the PSP. When Sony began hitting below the belt insulting the GameBoy and Nintendo. Then when they rubbed the PS2's success in the competitions face like every interview I began to dislike the companies way of doing things. What finally destroyed all the respect I had for Sony was when the company told us to go out and get second jobs to buy PS3. They then arrogantly insulted the Wii while Microsoft actually responded fairly maturely.

Fact is Sony's additude is what turned me off. Copying is just one of the many reasons I prefer Nintendo and Microsoft. That being said I am a gamer, I own all three platforms. I may have little respect left for Sony but they do know how to make a decent product.

So do I hate Sony, yes and no. Its a love hate relationship. I prefer Nintendo and Microsoft but still buy PlayStation products. I like the products but not the way Sony itself acts. I love the products hate the company so to speak!
