Well that's sucky for people with internets friends. For most people it probably doesn't matter too much though.
I don't think it's a reason not to buy it though. There's still local multiplayer, and you can still play online.
Play.create.share isn't so great if you're restricted by region. If you live in a region where most people have no imagination the online tracks will be pretty boring.

It's region locked. The US blog is full of complaints about it.
If you live in AU, you can only play with AU, if you live in NA, you can only play with NA, if you live in EU, you can only play with EU. As far as I know. I tried using a US account and this doesn't let me play with US players. I think I'd need a US copy of the game, and a US proxy.

If you care about the game, go complain on the US blog. A fair few people have, apparently it's the only way they're going to listen.

Region locks are retarded. Yes, same region has a better ping and for racing random people it's the best. Could have just been the default server though, without the restriction of going anywhere else.
R u sure? i don't remember any other game that is region lock, doesn't make sense , y?
i would still buy it because it is really fun and i don't any-friend in other countries so doesn't affect me but they should still make it region free
