Forums - Sony - Help with PS3 Error code 20010514

My buddy has a 60 gig BC PS3 and he just got the infamous 80010514 error code.  From what we can tell online, it is a blu-ray diode lens failure.  He can play music cds, ps2 games, ps1 games, DVD movies, but not PS3 games. He boots up the game and it freezes.  Happens with every game he has tried.  He tried the "restore default settings" from the recovery menu and it has not solved his problem like it does some people.

My question to the VGchartz community is what are some good 3rd party repair shops that can fix this problem. It doesn't matter where they are as long as they are affordable and reliable.  I know we could send it in to sony, but they would just tell us that it will cost $150 bucks because it is out of warranty.  Are there 3rd-party repair shops that can repair this ps3 for under $150 bucks?  All suggestions welcome. Thanks all.

PS Please no replies of "you should have bought a Wii/Xbox 360" as these don't help the matter at hand.

Edit: I just realized that the topic title reads "20010514" when it should read "80010514" If there is a moderator that can fix that title that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try looking at this it gives a bunch of information. Hope it works man.

Thanks for the help, that website is the first one that comes up when you search in google.  Because of this, I've already read it.  I appreciate the effort though.  One thing we are going to try is to put a different harddrive in his PS3 and see if there is still the error and the freezing.  If it is a firmware corruption error, then probably only sony will be able to fix.  If it really is a Blu-ray laser failure then any 3rd-party repair shop would probably work.  Any other suggestions very welcome.

I hate to bump this thread, but my friend really needs help and I'm sure that someone in the VGchartz community knows about some 3rd-party repair guys.  Where do you send your YLOD consoles?  I know not everyone is sending it to Sony.
