Forums - Gaming - Could Portable Video Games be the only systems of the next Gen...

"(Dragon Quest IX, Metal Gear Solid-Peace Walker, Valkyria Chronicles II)"

DQ IX is the only noteworthy title out of the three. So, do you have any evidence? Even a single other noteworthy title?

I like the idea of a hybrid portable system, powerful enough to play games on the go with reduced resolution and 2 channel sound, but taking advantage of a docking station with a co-processor to support the features and connectivity we expect of home consoles.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

I can't see portable gaming replacing home gaming for another decade or too. One major feature that would be lost is multiplayer, local would be impossible unless an owner owned multiple systems. This is financially impossible for most consumers who can't afford multiple consoles. Then lets not forget screen size, handhelds screens would just be to small to satisfy the average gamer. So any future handheld would also need TV connectivity so that the consumer could play on a big screen. But then the game would need multiple resolutions as stretching out that small crystal clear image onto a 42 inch would be nearly impossible to do without sacrificing quality.

I think it might happen eventually, when the Matrix or Holograpms become a reality. But not within the next ten years!
