Forums - Gaming - Why you should buy new games

You know what game was worth full price? S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat. One of the biggest games I've played, and with a launch price of only $30. It was $20 if you bought the game off of Steam and had a previous installment (I own the entire series).

$20 launch price, now that is worth every penny. Even if you don't like the game you HAVE to give respect for that.

1) So do used and even piracy if you've got a printer. The Manual is a nice extra, or at least it should be. It's sad just how the manual has declined from what it used to be.

2) used game sales (and even piracy) support higher console sales. the ability to get cheaper games makes a console a lot more attractive to a lot of people

3) do you really want a movie? I'm not gonna argue this point, I'm just saying, movie? Really?

4) I'm being quite real. used game sales give money to the people who buy games, who then buy more games. Stop always looking at the used game rack and start looking at the new game rack to see just how many people are using their revenue from used games to buy new ones. Every one of those used games is fresh game buying ammo for the game buying public.

5) That's a pretty damn good reason to buy those games. Affordable is generally a good reason to get something, hence used game sales.

6) if people bought new on release dates, reason 5 would go out the window.

1) Most I have seen look dirty

2) Not if they buy a used console

3) Yes movies are cool (EXCEPT RE), looking forward to Prince of Persia

4) Not really, some trade in to get another used copy. I used to do that all the time lol.

5) Yup

6) Yeah that was a bad one

Then you must be buying from market stalls or something, I haven't seen a dirty game 2nd hand for years, and the last game I bought without a box was an N64 one (at a charity sale at my uni 3 years ago... before that it will have been a previous N64 game probably in the 90s)

The question is, would they be able to afford a console otherwise... mine is new, but I don't spend much on gaming, if I had to buy new games all the time I would have far fewer games.

Films about games... just no. The Resident Evil films are the tolerable ones (mostly due to Milla Jovovich)

Until sone game gives me a very good reason to buy it on launch day I won't, I will happily buy new for the right price (I got Okami for £12 two years ago) but it is rare to see that.

Never bought a used game (or movie) in my life and I never will.
You only get real quality with new games. Plus there are so many fantastic deals out there that used game prices look like rip-offs

What do u mean lol? It's the same copy of the game.

no scratched DVDs or damaged manuals/boxes and you get a DLC code with many games nowadays

And don't forget, free of germs.

About half of my games are used, only 1 is scratched at all (BWii) and it still works perfectly.

Only 1 has a damaged box (Mario Kart Double Dash... this is because it was an ex-rental copy.... still no scratches on the disc though)

Not much DLC on the Wii, generally the whole game is on the disc in the first place.

@Slimebeast. unless someone sneezed anthrax onto it I think you would be safe. It is thought that a lot of people today have allergies because of over-cleanliness. (Still, I wouldn't buy a 2nd hand controller for that reason)

Some people seem to be confusing the concept of "buying new" vs. "buying on release day"

You can often times get new games for not much more expensive than used game, or if you can wait until the game becomes a greatest hit/platinum/whatever then the game is no longer $60, but $30/20

I buy used if the game is old and it's something that I want to try,but not sure if it's worth full price.
