Forums - Sony - "It Only Does Everything" camping is funny, but is it effective?

I'm starting to wonder... is the "It Only Does Everything" ads are really effective? I mean, yeah, they sure are funny as hell and effective to some extent, but do they really help marketing the game?

Take the Modnation Racers ad for example - Great ad, very funny... but is it effective? It shows no footage of the game whatsoever, I would think that someone who doesn't already know the game wouldn't know what the hell the commercial is all about

I just think bigger games like Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5 and such need a separate serious marketing campaign

God of War 3 had a pretty big marketing push and it showed in the sales but I still think it could have been a lot bigger

Why the hell they didn't do the same with Uncharted 2 for example? it a game with much more appeal to a border audience and could have sold so much better, especially in the US.. I mean, the first month 534K? really? Gears of War 2 opened with 1.56 million and had a second month of 745K

Does Gears of War 2 appeal to more people? I really don't think so

Why the hell didn't they bundle Uncharted 2 or God of War 3?

1st - they bundled both games.

But you're probably right... they're great ads, but maybe not that effective. But they're good to clean the image of arrogance sony had before, even if they don't sell the game like it should.

....its clearly effective if you went out of your way to make a thread talking about a companies ad campaign....

If I'm not mistaken they did so only in Europe for both games which is a lot weaker market for those games

Uncharted 2 sold 534K in October... just imagine if they did it like Gears of War 2 with official bundles in a November releae during the holiday..

you are right... Camping IS funny.

HAHA.. Sorry about that it morning here and I didn't sleep all night plus English is not my native language

I hate campers. They always kill you while hidden.

lol camping is funny...

anyways i actually have to agree. after watching the GOW commercial, the first thing i thought to myself was 'this is not going to attract new ppl to the franchise' because it didn't clearly show enough what the game was about

And effective.

Gears of War sold very well 'cause it's simply that awesome... plus if I'm not mistaken, it was the first big AAA game for the 360, so most of the initial userbase bought it (correct me if I'm wrong)

Oh, and about the ads... it does what it should: it's funny, therefor it will easily get people's attention and the word of mouth will do the rest. Good strategy I reckon.

I really take umbrage with the ads, but I think I'm the only one. It's just too arrogant for me. No offense to anyone who likes them, just my taste.
