Forums - Sony - How Playstation 3 Can Quickly Pass the 360 and Make Wii Sweat

People bring up small HDD all the time for Xbox Arcade and now the PS3.

Forget it. You dont know how HDD prices work. Prices dont drop much below $50 retail for a laptop HDD (The kind used in PS3 and 360). What changes is capacity. So now in the $50 range is 250GB drives. Manufacturers stop making the smaller drives. If you want one they are special order and that means higher cost. So 40GB to 60GB drives cost more than 250GB drives not less.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Pull off every exclusivity deal in the book? They would have to be willing to make a huge loss if they wanted that to happen...

The price point is already at a sweet point for all of what your getting. Dropping the price more will increase sales but not by nearly as much as the sales increase the last price drop did.

(imo, as always)

Nintendo surely would sweat if the PS3 sold on par with the Wii over the course of a whole fiscal year, because that would mean their lead of 35m consoles sold would shrink to something like 33m. Of course this is ignoring Nintendo rolling in the money while Sony would be able to brag about their incredible achievement in the gaming industry: over 350m systems sold, over three billion games sold and not having profited a single cent from all of that.

fail math, PS3 - Wii difference is 35m - they sell even - difference is 33m?

Sony's game division just announced losses of nearly 1 billion dollars and you want them to again make losses on each console sold?

PS3 portion in the NPS is around 50% and i think the PS3 related losses are also around half..

Hilarious thread. You even got Rol to post in it!

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

GT5 will finish of the 360 in Europe, that's all is needed to pass the 360 WW.

After that we shall see.

While were trying to lose Sony money by cutting the price of the PS3 why not just give the console away. It would thump the 360 and the Wii would be steamrolled within 6 months. but then they would need to make 50-60 million PS3's this year to keep up with demand. LOL

Actually, selling at the $200.00 price point would allow Sony to make more money off their exlusive games as more people would pick them up and it would expand the blu-ray market.

Sony has shown they can have better sales than the Wii in Japan. Price is still the only thing stopping the PS3 from doing so worldwide at this point.

If they could get the PS3 down to within $50.00 of Wii it would still take away some Wii sales as Nintendo's price cut from last year indicated.

on one side people moan about backward compatability and on the other they whine that the ps3 costs too much.
BC is useless......if you want to play ps2 games, you should have kept your ps2.
no point upping the cost for everyone just because a few people decided they didnt want their ps2 anymore.
