Forums - Sony - How I saved my PS3 from YLOD..... TWICE !

So I'm playing inFamous and suddenly, my PS3 decides to be a bitch and it freezes...no worries...this has happened before..So I eject the disk and restart to be greeted by an ugly yellow light which then starts blinking red...

I didn't know what to do, so I unplugged all the cables and Vacuum cleaned my PS3's vents and plugged it back in. It was back to normal...How the hell did that work ? I have no idea.

6 months later, today, I turned my PS3 on in the morning and much to my horror its the red blinking light again...Mirror's Edge is stuck inside, so I turn my PS3 off from the main power switch, kept my finger on the eject button, and turned the main power switch on to access the fan test mode and I quickly ejected Mirror's Edge.

I unplugged all cables, vacuumed all the vents again and plugged it back in and...you guessed it, its back to normal. Idk how it worked but I'm a happy gamer and thats all that matters !

Lesson of the story: Vacuum your YLOD PS3 and then test it before consider shipping it in to get it fixed.

Ill keep that in mind thanks =)

Would an inetrcooler prevent dust build up since it is pulling air out of the ps3?

I guess it would help prevent YLOD since its supposed to be an over-heating issue..Dust causes the air flow to be blocked, no dust, no YLOD. But an Intercooler is another way of preventing heat I guess..
