On second thought 60 million by the end of 2008 does seem rather high. Maybe low 50's is more realistic.

I think the DS scenerio doesn't really apply. The DS demand isn't through the roof year long. Nintendo didn't need to raise production except for the holidays. The Wii demand is constant so it's not like they will have leftover Wii's if they raised production.

Regarding the 500 million number, it's just John's upper bound for the Wii. His minimum is 240 million, which means two times the PS2. I don't see why it's not possible (although the Wii will hopefully not fail as much as the PS2, which many people bought twice or more).

 


 I told people that 200 million should be the highest limit but then suggested you should be in a range of 60-150 million.  Nothing wrong with that.

Well I definetly see why its not possible.  Even when I saw massive Wii success the first numbers that came into my head were like 120 million tops, not 500 million.

I don't deny that I'm not arrogant, but I'll continue that most of the time I say statements strongly like that I end up right. Although don't quote me on that as I'm never 100% sure. As I'm said some things that have happened this generation surprise me.

If Wii launches in India and China I could see 750 Million easy

lol, well no, but there are approximately 450-600 million people in the middle classes of China and India combined, many of whom are becoming consumers of electronics, I believe the Wii could find great support in those countries (not to mention that salaries in those countries are growing pretty fast thanks to globalization)

Dear John Lucas

Are you smoking rock? Seriously...There is no way in heck the Wii is going to sell what you so confidently claim.

I'm fascinated by your predictions and your confidence, but I simply cannot agree with you. The reasons you give seem logical and rational, but again, there is noooo waaay.

60 million by the end of 2008--not a chance
50 million--a fair chance
Anything between your minimum and maximum sales for Wii--not on this universe.

I'm sorry to say this, but you will be wrong about your prediction, just as you will be wrong about your WiiFit prediction (believeing WiiFit can outsell Halo 3's launch sales is preposterous).

However, I must say that all of this is great entertainment. What will we do without your outlandish predictions?

                 With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B
