In 2007, they said that it might happen, but it didn't, it was just a rumor. But don't get me wrong, I didn't think it would happen, this poll is just predictions of whether it was possible or not.

Where's the business case for this?

It would do nothing for HW sales because the loyal fans of both franchises would stick with the native console (there's no way either Ninty or MS would allow an exclusive game (even if it's only a spin-off) on the other console).

Game sales: sure a game available to a bigger user base will always sell more units overall. But would the additional sales be substantial enough to really justify multiconsoling the MOST iconic franchise on the XBox, and one of the most iconic franchises on the Nintendo platform? I don't see it myself.

If it was ever seriously thought about by either company the business analysis would have rapidly concluded that it's not worth doing.
