dude you're going way off on the insults there:
Thought of the little kids that don't have a credit card for online purchases and paid 15$ so that all 3 of them could use one guy's dad's credit card?
Anyways the games have already been available for a long time (obvious for world of goo...) and freely for people who didn't want to pay a thing. Most likely half the "pirates" are people who don't even know of the deal and just came accross a link for "free games".
Lastly, not every country has US laws.... this is the internet, however you like it, some countries tolerate infridgement to copyright.
And regarding charity. I personally ticked the option "all to developpers", so much for that, hey!
If a mod doesn't pin you for your language in this thread, i'm gonna be pretty disapointed in this site...

I agree that without knowing this we shouldn't condem
If a 10 year old goes up to the average parent and says "Can I borrow your credit card, it'll only cost you a dollar", the parent is not going to give them the credit card.
I think a lot of people in this thread are of the opinion that because they have no need to pirate, no-one can have any reason to

How do you think these kids that can't pay for these games get consoles, computers, and games (that they pay for)? They ask their parents.
What's so difficult about asking your parents for $5 or $1? If the parents can't afford it, they say no and it's done. If they can, they can.
In your example the parents should not give them the card, they should see what the kid wants and buy it themselves if they deem it appropriate. Parents not being involved isn't really an excuse and letting their 10 year old run loose with their credit card is just plain stupid.
And if the parent doesn't have a credit card, they first need to get with the 21st century and then realize you don't need a credit card for paypal.

Sorry, my point was not that the parents wouldn't want to give their kids a dollar. My point was that 99% of the things on the internet that require a $1 fee from a credit card, are actually just a way for people to get your credit card details. Lots of parents are going to assume that this is one such case, and not let their kids use their credit card. yes, in an ideal world, parents would be willing to put in the time and effort working out if it is legit or not, but we all know that isn't what happens

i stand by my comment buddy...that's my attitude towards people who steal the hard work of others without compensating them for it...scum sucking shit bags...if a mod wants to ban me for that so be it
well at least this post got me to go buy the games ;D
i didnt pirate em or anything but i've been meaning to get them anyway so i put up a bit of money for the developers

There are two problems with that: 1) you assume gaming is a necessity and 2) you assume their money is worth more than mine. It sucks that those people don't have enough money for games, but that's life. You don't need a game to drive to work, you don't need a game to feed your family, and you don't need a game to live. I hate to sound harsh, but gaming is a luxury. Plain and simple. Even ignoring that, why do those people get the game for free and I have to pay for it? Why should I be punished for having the money to pay for the game and why is their money worth more than mine? |
Whoa man. Never said gaming is a necessity. Never said anything about their value of money as compared to yours.
On the other had I rather have a poor man rob me who is trying than a rich man who isn't.
You are not the one to judge wether a person needs something or not and neither am I. Maybe it's because I grew up in the projects and I've witnessed real poverty when I was younger. Some of us used the system correctly to better ourselves and some of them just continued to rot in there. Pirating video games to me was my anti-drug/voilence as most of my friends became bangers and drug dealers. It was an escape from reality just like reading books for free from the library. I pay for my stuff now and live well. I earned it and my family earned it.

Again, that's why parents should be more active. It's not the developers fault that parents are lazy or kids don't want to ask.
Yeah, if I had a kid and they asked me hey dad, can I have $1 for these sweet games? I might just say no because that just might be a scam but if the kid actually told me what he was wanting and explained it to me I would likely say yes.
Why should I feel sorry for these kids and forgive them for pirating the game because they can't be bothered to ask their parents what they want?
