I'm pretty sure 3D based technology on TVs, if it ever takes off mainstream, won't do so until next gen. Currently its in a transition period much like any initial media went through and only the highly 'tech savvy' people with lots of money are trying it out.
The things that will probably push forward the 3D technology the farthest will probably be handheld technologies like the 3DS and the iphone. They will put the idea of 3D into peoples brains, and that will spur people into buying 3D TVs.
