Forums - Sony - The Tides They Are a Changing.

Early in this gen many games were originally being developed for PC and 360, then being ported over to the PS3 and with this, it was often said that xbox 360 versions of games were vastly superior to the PS3 versions of those games.

However, as Now Gaming website reports:
http://www.nowgamer.com/features/682/developers-shift-to-leading-on-ps3?o=2#listing ,
many high profile developers including Yoshinori Kitase of Square (saying he prefers to use the PS3 as his lead development platform because he can push graphics much further with the PS3), Crytek (making the PS3 their lead platform for Crysis 2's console development), and even Bioware are now opting to use the PS3 as their lead platform in the design of their console games.

Reasons given for this shift include the graphical abilitities of the PS3, development on PS3 giving developers a great practice run in programming for the next generation of pc games since it is speculated that future computer multi-core processors will be similar to the current architecture of the PS3; and the fact that it is early in the PS3's lifespan and developers are very curious to see just how far they can push the PS3 architecture.

So, it appears that as far as the development of console games is concerned and for the PS3 as a second or even third choice in the development of console games the times are changing.

Yep. Developers finally realized that using the Ps3 as the lead console is more beneficial and efficient rather than using the 360

Only took em like 3 years

"Being single is easier on the gaming life, and the wallet."

is it early in the ps3 lifespan?

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Yes it is. Didn't you hear about the 10 year lifecycle plan?

It's early in the PS3's lifespan because it has probably not even scratched a third of what its total sales will be in Japan yet.

They don't have to replace the PS3 because the Wii's nowhere near as powerful and Wii2 isn't likely to be any more powerful. And, it is catching up with the 360. So, unless Microsoft launches a new super console that really takes off in the West in the next two years, then they don't have to worry about that either.

Yeah i've heard about that somewhere, but i wouldn't call 4 years in early...

Yeah it seems the ps3 is only recently picking up steam and i reckon the ps3 won't be maxed out until at least 2013 because:
100% of the ps3 isn't even being touched upon yet!
When they finally do max out the ps3 they will find more efficient ways of using it.

for a sony consol 3 years is pretty early along the lines to be honest.

Interesting, so the "Let's make our hardware unneccesarily complex so if people want to use it they'll have to produce for us first!" mentality has finally paid off. Although the article doesn't say that Bioware or Crytek will be leading on the PS3, they pretty much just used "PR speak" and avoided saying anything like that, but let's assuem for the sake of getting along that they did. Can't wait to have my PS3 make me dinner soon.
