Forums - Gaming - FPS overload this Fall?

Is anybody else thinking that the FPS craze is going to ridiculous heights this fall?

Call of Duty:  Black Ops, Halo Reach, Medal of Honor,  and Crysis 2 are the heavy hitters that I know are being released.  There are probably more.

Can the market contain this many shooters?

Which of these games will be most successful?

Judging by past success, CoD: Black Ops has the highest potential to sell well since it is multi-platform.  Treyarch's last game WaW sold 4.0 million on the PS3 and 6.3 million on the 360 as well as 1.47 million on the Wii.

Halo Reach is obviously going to be very successful judging by the early preorders and interest in the beta.  I wouldn't be too surprised to see Halo Reach equal the success of Halo 3 at around 11 million.

Medal of Honor is hit or miss.  Medal of Honor: Frontline and Rising Sun were massive hits on the PS2 both selling over 4 million.  However, the Medal of Honor: Airborne game for 360 wasn't very popular selling only 0.54 million copies. I hope this series gets reinvigorated, because it has the potential to compete with Call of Duty.

Crysis 2 is the darkhorse--- most console gamers have probably never even heard of Crysis.  This game will have a huge uphill battle with all the other FPS games coming out.  Winning the graphics title only goes so far, just look at Killzone 2.

It is also quite possible that MW2 might still be selling well this fall, especially with a price drop and another map pack.

With all these games coming out, I don't even know where to begin.  When I get a FPS with good online multiplayer options, I usually put at least 100 hours into it.  For the last 3 years, I have pretty much been playing only 3 games online:  Halo 3, MW, and MW2.  Does anyone else feel like they can no longer keep up with all these great games coming out?  Heck, I still want to try MAG and Bad Company 2-- but the latest MW2 stimulus package has eaten up all my gaming time over the last month.

I'm likely only buying crysis 2 on PC... even if the reviews are good for the others, as I have bought those others when they had good reviews and didn't enjoy them, because I don't enjoy FPS, for the most part. (Exceptions, Bioshock HL2, and Crysis)

I rarely get FPS anymore unless they are spectacular, just because I can last on just one for a very long time. I doubt I'll be getting any of them this fall. I don't think I'll be pick up another Call of Duty game for my 360 for quite awhile because MW2 and Halo 3 should be enough to satisfy my FPS needs, not to mention Gears 2, which is similar though it is technically a 3rd person shooter.

I MAY get the Conduit 2 on Wii, but only if they work out all the issues from the first game like the bland single player, and the hacking online.

i'd get Medal Of Honor, but this was also like last year, its always full of shooters.

It may just be me, but it seems that '09 wasn't quite as crowded with top notch shooters. The main ones that I remember from '09 were MW2, Halo ODST, and Borderlands. I know Killzone 2 also game out in '09 as well.

It seems like '10 really has all the major developers focused on publishing the next Call of Duty.
