Do YOU think a 4th Home Console will debut in the near future? This doesn't include OnLive coz when I mean Home Console, I'm soley talking the Consoles you play connected to your TV.

Choose #1 if you believe a 4th Console will debut this Gen to compete against the PS3, Wii and X360 and why.

Choose #2 if you believe a 4th Console will debut next Gen to compete against the PS4, Next Nintendo Console and the Next Xbox and why.

Choose #3 if you believe it's a possibility but it won't happen and state you reasons why

Choose #4 if you believe it just won't happen ever and why

And if you choose either #1 or #2 please share which company could potentially release the 4th Console. Sega? EA? Apple?

===============

I personally believe that a 4th Console could debut next Gen made by Apple. My reason for this opinion is not very strong but it's because I think Steve Jobs would want to directly compete with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo in the Video Game industy by releasing Apple's very own Home Console. He obviously thinks that the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad are competing against the PSP and DS so I think he would have ideas for a Home Console. If Steve Jobs and Apple are able to come up with a great console, they could eventually gain as much success in the VG industry as the Big 3 Console Makers.

I highly doubt it, the market is really not doing all that well right now despite high hardware sales for systems, developers won't like it if another console comes in and fragments the market even more.

I think apple might be eying an entry in to the home console market. They have been slowly building up their brand name and reputation in gaming with games for the itouch and ipad games. They have enough apple fanboys behind them to be successful in the console market just look at brisk ipad sales. Whatever apple releases seems to be in demand.

Even though it won't happen I hope sega comes back in to the console market and becomes successful again.

iconsole, but in next gen

Nope... just another Ipod something that will do everything inclunding playing [crap] games

That's what I think as well. Apple has been trying to build up a reputation in the gaming industry and now you see EA supporting the iPad as well as iPod and iPhone games and slowly Capcom, Square Enix and others are releasing quality games in the App Store. It's definitely a possibility of Apple entering the Home COnsole market

Apple actually released a home console called the Pippin, about 15 years ago I think...it was a huge failure but today´s Apple is an entirely different beast...

I was starting to think that Apple would try, but without any first party studios they will struggle I think. Even though Microsoft has the fewest first party studios this gen, it still gives them an edge and has games you cant find on another console, which makes it a desireable machine. Since Apple wont have that, what makes their machine the one to get? Especially when you can get 3rd party software on the other consoles that also have 1st party software.

And I cant even imagine what the price tag on what an Apple console will be, it might put the PS3's launch price to shame

So even if they do, I think it will be an early exit.

As for the OP, I don´t think so and I hope not....in my opinion 3 is already crowded enough..to me the ideal 'battle' would be between 2 players...like Genesis vs SNES...that was the best 'console wars' ever.

I don't think they're will be another console. I think if any company out there wanted to make a gaming console it would be Apple, with they're innovation and money, I think they can compete with Microsoft and Sony not sure about Nintendo though.
