Forums - Gaming - who has the patten for motion controls

a great argument. the real question is why are sony and nintendo copying the people who own's the tech. cause if they owned it they would be in a heated legal battal right now. so who own's the motion control technology? this should end the argument of who's copping who and get us back to gamming!

Sony has a patent for their ps move tech. It's unique enough not to infringe on what nintendo have. Also they've been designing that stuff for years since atleast '04/'05

There are no more arguements anymore, where have you been?

The Wii has been out for a while, so if it was infringing patents in any meaningful way then they would have been sued already. Nintendo has already fought off a number of these patent disputes, so it is highly unlikely that they will be sued anymore.

Since Sony has not released their product, they can't be sued. They can only be sued after they launch their product.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

This is where the thread failed.

Don't bet on it.

Some existing patent will get vaguely change to vaguely cover some motion controls and the suing be in Texas.

if we are talking about who has the oldest motion control patents... i believe i recall reading something about a pc peripheral that microsoft made, that was out first.

There is no patent for "motion control" there will be patents for specific forms of motion control depending on how they are used, implemented and what tech is used.

I should think all three of the motion control options are unique enough to avoid patent infringment... but that doesn't mean some won't try to sue. Nintendo has probably already been over theirs in detail to see if they can sue Sony, but I doubt that will happen (some smaller companies will probably try it on though)

Motion control is aan extremely general term, there can;t be a patent for it. Its like saying "Analog Controls" should be patented. Systems which are diverse in this manner can't be patented. I believe SONY does have a Patent for its own motion control in order to prevent a direct copy. In terms of who copy'd who, we all kmow the answer to that.
