Also, eventually franchises become overused and lose their appeal (especially if something better comes along).

Last I heard, MS still owns the rights to Halo, so unless Bungie (or another studio) somehow gets MS to license the franchise to them, no one other than MS is going to be producing a Halo game.

GT5 hasn't come out yet because of 3D support... At least that's what everyone is assuming

I bought my Genesis/Megadrive because I wanted to play sonic.... got to play many other great exclusives, but sonic was pretty damn good....(in 2D =)

anyways for the other topic, Sony have the best strat with this.... they don't release the game, but they say they will 10 years in advance, so there are plenty of sales by anticipation... at 800$, this is genius. (well not if you count that they lost money on every unit sold... did they delay the release until it's profitable on purpose??).

the thing is it's not like we have not had a GT title on the PS3 we have had GT5:P yes it is not as awesome as GT5 is going to be, but this proves that I don't thnik we need to worry about Sony, besides Sony does not depend on a one trick pony, it has variety, there are other games which help out PS3 as well and they keep on pumping out new IP's, this is why sony will survive.
