"The 245 percent increase in PS3 units sold in North America was reported by the top 10 retailers for Nov. 18 through Nov. 24, Sony spokeswoman Kimberly Otzman said today in an e-mail. "
Prediction - 245% increase in console sales will not show a significant increase in this month NPD or this weeks VGchartz
Reasoning -
A) Sony's has made similar statements in the past and where proven false (like announcing PS3 sales and then saying that those sales numbers include PS2 and PSP numbers). Them doing again isn't that far fetched
B) Sony's announcing consoles sold to stores. This could very well be the stores Christmas stock and what they expect to sell in December total.
C) In PR you use only the numbers that make you look good, and hide the numbers that make you look bad. Announcing only the percentage and hiding the actual number can only mean that the actual number is low. It isn't vgchartz numbers up by 245%, its sold to stores up by 245%, and for all we know they only sold 10,000 the week before.
D) Historically (using vgchartz numbers) no other console has shown that much of a significant increase in 1 week.
E) Sony numbers come from the top 10 retailers, yet if any of those stores would of been sold out of PS3's, we would of heard it by PS3 fanboys all over these forums... yet it hasn't happened.
