I think that it will be between random game 1, announced by Sony in E3, random game 2, announced by Nintendo in E3, and random game 3, announced by MS in TGS.

FF13 should be on the most disappointing list... and not just for the year but for the generation perhaps even in the history of mankind.

My contenders of the year are
ME2 and Bad Company 2 so far but there is a lot of the year left :)

Fable II won GOTY awards, so I think Fable III is a contender.

I'm inclined to say Mass Effect 2. If we're including PC games... SC2 will probably trump it. Also, Halo: Reach will undoubtedly be excellent from a MP PoV, but if they somehow harness the magic they used to make Halo: CE, it could be in contention, though unlikely.

Last time Mario Galaxy got a decent number of them. If i recall Halo 3, Orange Box, and Mario Galaxy were the ones that won the most that year.

I pretty much agree with the OP with the exception of FF13 (it has a chance to win a few but thats it)

The game that, imo has the strongest chance of getting the most GOTY awards is Halo: Reach.

if people would look at ff 13 as the game itself and not a final fantasy then it would be up there but it wont win

FF13 doesn't deserve any sort of mention in GoTY category.

GoW3 and ME2 are the only titles released that will have an outside shot of winning. Games released later in the year are more fresh in peoples minds and will probably get the nod.

FF13 is my personal game of the year & generation tied with Fallout 3. I would have to agree with your statement. It was my first Final Fantasy, but I am a RPG veteran (played WRPG's PC ones since the 90's).

So most of the things the reviewers complaining about, I didn't really understand why. Most reviews were full of things the game didn't have instead of rating things the game did have. The sense of linearity was pretty well done in order to replicate the trapped effect the characters in the game were feeling. I am not sure what relevance Minigames and so on had towards Final Fantasy as a game before. Frankly I don't know how reviewers didn't fall in love with the game, maybe as its my first Final Fantasy it probably seemed fresh & new to me coming from playing just Western RPG's.

But reading this thread and others on vgchartz it seems FF13 is a hit among fans.
