I advise you to give it to someone whose account has many games inside. It would be a shame to give HL2 to some dude that doesn't care about Steam or PC games.

What if it was someone like myself who was jst getting back into PC gaming????? And has only bought a few games off of Steam.

and if you want to play it with all high res textures and HD charactor models etc you should really check out the mod for it
