I think the biggest thing out of all that is the "No price cut for another year" part. Not unexpected. Also, this means that this holiday season the rundown will likely be a Slim 360 Natal Bundle at $250-300 and a PS3 Slim Move Bundle at $350-400. Regardless though it looks like the PS3 is about to be considerably more expensive to purchase than the 360 once the new motion peripherals and the new 360 design + price cut is released.

Will it be another $200 (Slim Arcade + Natal)/$300 (Slim Elite + Natal) vs $400 (PS3 + Move) holiday? Seems like we are ever more likely to repeat the 2008 scenario now.

Seiously?? Come on the Slim relese showed that peope was waiting for PS3 to be dropped to $299, so they could afford it, also don't forget we have lots of Games coming including the all important GT5, I think GT5 is going to play an important part in keeping ps3 sales high, if x360 outsells ps3 it will be by a smaller margin this time around.

we don't how about pricing yet... so hold your horses.

ps3 right now still is more expensive, and an add it's just an add you are not forced to buy the bundled version.

so unless one of them are huge hits u won't see a different story from chrismas 2009-

Your reasoning will fall on some deaf ears here.

But, this is pretty much how the general consumer sees video game console pricing. Most will buy the console they want when it hits a certain price (which is why viable hardware platforms sell the majority of their units under $200 over the course of a generation). You know this, I know this, but there are some people who still refuse to acknowledge it.

Fewer will buy the console they want as soon as X game is released.

Even if you go for the non-bundled pricing it will likely be a $200-250 Elite Slim vs a $300-350 PS3.  The 360 and PS3 are currently the same price and yet one offers so much more so it is obvious at equal prices the 360 can never stack up.  At the same time, the 360, for those very same reasons, should be priced quite lower already but MS held off the price cut for when they do their own redesign and want to include Natal.

So with all those being stated, the situation is going to be much more likely to repeat 2008.

Fixed! Anyway, the slim release showed that people were waiting for the Sony to release a slim. There were many PS3 "Phat" owners who purchase the slim because it was smaller and sexier. Also, GT5 is most likely going to be dwarfed by Reach.

Not lifetime.  Reach will be more front-loaded, though.

GT5 will sell 10million +

Hm. Figure SCE will break even on this model?

Probably.

nah they will make a profit.

They were barely losing on Slim.that loss was being easily made up by SW sales.

they could even profit by 30-50$

This may explain the "tight supply" as Sony cleverly avoids the term "shortages".

Either way, this may be the break even point, in which case, good for them.

yes this was it.

this is the 3.0kg PS3 slim.

This could even enable them to make a $50 price cut this fall with other hardware  and blue-ray drives prices falling.and then the $100 price cut to the magical $149 mark next year which brought the most number of sales last generation with PS2.

this was expected CGI and even you knew it.You are experienced VGC user to predict this.

it could also be that they were trying to lessen the loss occured in the last FY.

it could also be that they reached their 13m  quota quite easily last year,so they said they would sell them this year as in April there have been less shortages.you know the corporate thing, they already would have made their shareholders happy by meating last years forecast and wanted to increase the forecast and selling more systems after april 2010 will contribute to this years numbers which will make it easy to make the higher forecasts.

I wonder if this new model will be called PS3 Move and already cames with a packed move set as standart and with a duashock 3.

All for 300$ would be nice.

there will be a PS3 price cut of $50 to $250 and then the $100 price cut next year which will get the PS3 to the majical $149 mark which made the most sales last gen with PS2.

you reall think with next gen arriving in 2012,they will still price the PS3 above $200.

And 360 slim arcade + natal will cost $250 at max.not discussing elite

PS3 slim + Move with subcontroller and eye will cost $299 at max.Sony won't be far behind this time cause they can't afford to lose the momnetum.I have explained to you before in another thread,PS3 slim with RSX 45nm already will readuce cost and with 32nm Cell being worked on and HW costs decreasing, eye cost barely $15,game will be first party so free,Move with subcontroller will cost $50 at max. They will msot likely price it at $299 with losing $30 at max and SW sales will cover that and Move bundle will only be some.Sony will make money on other bundles.

And we will for sure not see 2008 scenario,it will be a fight this time.Good for us VGC sales fanatics
