Actually I just found a good website that helped me out. Crucial.com allowed me to just put in my manufacturer, and model and told me what RAM I should get, and what my PC can handle.

My Dell Dimension E520 can hold 4 slots of DDR2 with a maximum of 1 gig per slot. It recomended the following, does this sound reasonable, or should I be getting something else? It says the price is 31 dollars.

1GB  240-pin DIMM

  • Module Size: 1GB
  • Package: 240-pin DIMM
  • Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
It said this about the manufacturers specifications of my PC.
  • Graphics Support:   PCI Express x16
  • Maximum Memory:   4096MB
  • Slots:   4 (2 banks of 2)
  • Standard Memory:   512MB removable
  • USB Support:   2.x Compliant
  • Have to look at what your motherboad can take.

Because of DDR3 becoming market standard, DDR2 has gone up in price. At the moment I'm running 4gb DDR2 1066Mhz CL5 Kingston HyperX which is really good, but now costs about £100.

Try to find yourself some 800Mhz CL5. Should be nice and fast and not cost nearly as much as 1066Mhz.

    Around the Network

If you put 4 gig of ram into a xp 32bit system it will only read 3.5 gig of it. So that is something you should be aware of.

btw, ive been using mushkin ram in all of my builds the last couple of years. It is very reliable for the price.
