Trailers of the game, and clips of the game, not actually gameplay, has given indication the game has nice lighting effects. Come on, are you say hype needs more than just video clips and trailers for a game to exist? Are you saying people actually need to PLAY something they are going to hype before they start hyping it?

On games that use a unique artstyle, yes.
Alan Wake for the largest part is replicating real life. Foliage, ground cover, humans and so on, none of which can be rendered well or look particularly great in 540p. On a large TV (above 30~") or sitting close to a small TV, it's a huge eyesore to play games so far SUB-HD.
