Forums - General - Avatar sets first-day Blu-ray sales record

I know at Wal-Mart, there was Blu-Ray/DVD combo editions that were only $3 more than the DVD version by itself. It looks like they're trying to push the Blu-Ray format even more.

Although I'm kind of worried that after this release, not as many people will buy the better editions down the road, especially the 3D version, even though that's not the studio's fault. No one really has the money to make an impulse buy on a 3D TV yet.

Damn i just want it in 3-D soon.

I want the 3D version, but it can compromise for Blu-ray 2D until technology catches up.

Just some updated numbers.

- Avatar actually only sold 3.2 million disks in its first day of release. As opposed to over 4 million that was initially reported.

- First 4 days of sales is 6.7 million in America alone (2.7 million were BRs).

- Avatar sold 557,000 in France in two days.

- Sold 450,000 in Germany on its first day of release.

- 3,409 were stolen at gun poin in Mexico...

- 143,000 copies are pre-ordered in Japan.

Overall WW sales so far (this is NA, France and Germany) are 7,707,000 however its released in more then just those three markets and still has many markets to go, these numbers are just the numbers I could see in the article.

Sorry for any mistakes in this post.

Pretty good worldwide, then.

I wonder where it'll end up on the all-time charts.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

My thoughts on the movie from another thread...

Not worth watching outside of an IMAX 3D Theater. You're better off watching:

Lawrence of Arabia
Dances With Wolves
Star Trek: Insurrection
The Last Samurai

At least the acting and characters were much better and had more depth. Then there's alternate same type of movies in FernGully: The Last Rainforest and Pocahontas.

That may be your opion but its hardle relevant in a thread about sales tracking.

Neither are opinions in sales tracking in video game threads (for example, any Wii game that gets hype). For a guy with over 3,000 posts, I'd figure you'd know how things go around here.

Oh God, that's so pretentious.

Do the cliches ever end? Can we talk about Avatar without it being compared to Dances With Wolves, Pocahontas, or some other movies? People are broken records.

I don't know whose posts you were reading, but I certainly don't attack wii games often. Especially in sales tracking threads.

And bringing my post count into it was just unnecesary. Whilst you may not like the film (and on a certain level I agree with you), it simply isn't relevant to the thread.
Making things personal as soon as someone disagrees with you isn't the best policy when posting. All I wanted was for this discussion to remain on topic and not to devolve into a thread about quality.

Take a chill pill.
