Forums - General - Something that may explain Croatia's win over England

Football fan websites in Croatia want a medal for the British singer whose X-rated rendition of the country's national anthem apparently helped the team to beat England.

Opera singer Tony Henry mis-pronounced a key line in the national anthem before Wednesday's match and sang "my penis is a mountain" to the delight of the Croat players.

The anthem is written in the old Croat style. Instead of singing "Mila kuda si planina", which translates "You know my dear how we love your mountains", he sang "Mila kura si planina" - "My dear, my penis is a mountain".

Croatian players Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric were seen grinning at each other when they heard the mistake, and fans said it relaxed the team and helped them to their 3-2 victory.

Haha, how about - we were simply better?

Out of 2 played games against England in qualifying round, we won 2 times - facts are mercyless :P

But nice try :)

Edit: and kudos to that singer. Croatian language is a real bi**h to learn and speak, especially if you're not from the Slavic-language speaking area. He had few mistakes, but all in all it was a pleasant surprise.

@joora
you're right - croatia played great !

btw- iam trying to learn slovak at the moment and it is really difficult ...
some words in croat are similar.

coratia did play better without a doubt, england arent a good football team anyway. they have great players, but they suck as a team unit.

not enough technical play in my opinion. just pure headless chicken running, bob sled tackling, and toe poking outside the area.

no... it's cos we were shit, and now we have them in our world cup group...=( ...
o well at least eduardo got some good international experience ( I support Arsenal, so i like eduardo)

Croatia played very well and England did not.Obviously that was the reason for Croatias win.

Quality for Life

Well, I hope England will improve till the next two games... wait, I'm not supposed to hope for that :P

But anyway, I'm glad about our team, we have many young players playing for strong international teams(Eduardo, Kranjcar and Corluka im Premier league, Rakitic, Petric in German leauge and so on). Only one left here in the national leauge is Modric, and by all forecasts he will go in one of the stronger euro clubs(Chelsea and Arsenal mantioned the most) for a large sum of money (speculations are 20 mil euros and more). I think our weakest area in the next qualifications will be the defence, only Corluka is young.

But enough about that, i'm looking forward to the next Eng vs Cro matches, and hope both teams will qualify in the end.
