Forums - Sony - What does PS3 need to do to sell alot in the Americas?

I know it is selling well right now but it is still not selling that much higher than the xbox 360. And its not very close to the will. What would PS3 have to do to sell very well in the Americas? Would it need to cut the price? Do people mostly buy xbox 360 arcades because xbox 360 elite vs. PS3 is a no brainer especially when both are the same price.

More Western Exclusvie games similar to God Of War and Uncharted

Hmm they probably need a unique selling proposition, rather than being the more expensive Xbox 360 with Blu Ray to sell a lot more.

Some exclusive 5M+ selling shooters wouldn't hurt, but its hard to see that coming out now that they have already released several shooter franchises which have failed to cross this mark.

Move might help, though it depends on whether people see it as compelling and whether Sony can actually differentiate it from the Wii + provide compelling and unique software for it.

3D gaming wouldn't hurt, however the PS3 isn't powerful enough for every game to enable it and the adoption will be slowed by a lack of 3D ready TVs in the market so its likely to be a slow burn and likely not noticeable in the weekly sales if it takes off at all.

Tease.

Why doesn't Sony put advertisements on TNT during the NBA playoffs? I am currently watching the NBA playoff ads right now as well as many other people who might not own a PS3. Activision did this with MW2 and look how successful that game was. Also i saw like 2 splinter cell ads on TNT yesterday during the playoffs. I think Mass Effect 2 also did this during the NFL playoffs.

That's a good question. Most of us don't really know the answer; Hell, I don't think anyone of us have the right answer to your question, but we can speculate.

1. More Western FPS's
2. More emphasis on the US
3. larger ad campaign ( this would kinda fall in line with "more emphasis on the US")
4. uhmm, maybe a cheaper PS3 to compete with the Xbox 360 Arcade?

I'm only speculating on how that could be achieved, but I'm certain that the 360 has the US in the bag. It's Microsoft's home territory. I don't really think that the PS3/ 360 gap in the US is going to fall anytime soon or ever as a matter of fact.

So is there no way PS3 can ever catch up to the xbox 360? Sinch the Americas do have the largest gaming market

1.price cut or feature reduced ps3 for cheaper
2. big selling exclusive FPS(possibly resistance 3 or killzone 3 if advertised right.)
3.GT5 should help
4.continuation of great exclusives that appeal to the audience.(uncharted2/GOW3)
5.move
6. great advertising

Maybe if Sony developed a Blue Ocean Strategy and positioned the PS3 in ways that people anywhere wouldn't expect, that would bring new people to it, that could do it.  If you keep bringing out the same old stuff, don't expect things to change.

Maybe getting a few exclusive killer apps for Move, combined with 3D might do it.

Too late in the cycle, it will finish a far third place. But hopefully Sony comes with innovative ideas that will capture Americans instead of an expensive gaming machine. People are craving new, exciting stuff and Sony has fail to really show that can innovate anymore.

PS3 lost the battle in america....
I think Sony should focus on selling more systems in Japan and Europe.
Releasing games like Gran Turismo 5 will win Europe and Dragon Quest will win Japan.
Though i don't think we will see a DQ in japan for the PS3.
