I'm right before the final boss in FF13 and I still have no idea what the hell is going on. The information during the load screens always give good information but I always think, "Damn, is that what that cutscene was supposed to convey?" If I'd just read the loading screen, I'd think it was the best story ever. Seeing it all play out is just confusing. Do like me. Enjoy the battle system and Vanille's hypnotic booty. Ignore the story.

You do know that the info on the loading screen comes stright from the datalog in the menu, right?

If I wanted to look at a screen and read, I'd log into VGChartz!  FF13 is a video game, dammit!

Seriously though, I knew the data log was updating every few minutes but my game time was severly limited.  It was either play or read and I always chose "play".  Same thing with the Metroid Prime series.  I'd read about 10% of what I scanned,

The funny thing is you actually learn about the story from the datalog more than the cut-scenes. Even if you read the datalog, the ending will confuse you.

I will state this first. The story has flaws. Yes What you get from the story is your choice. As with most stories. Except the perfect ones, which this is not

You can understand the story without reading the dataloge, but you have to pay attention to every detail they say and it makes sense if you miss one thing, everything makes no sense. The story is not presented in a real good way, it just has potential. It should have been presented better. But, the story makes makes sense, because that's all I did, the first time I played it I didn't read the dataloge and it made sense. It wasn't a AAA story. But it was less confusing than lots of really good anime.

The datalogue works for if you weren't paying attention or understood what the characters were talking about. And extra descriptions about the world, that enhance the world tremendously, but is not necessary for the story to make sense. Also, An argument, which I had when I started playing it again. Is it helps pace the game between reading, combat, and cutscenes. If you don't want to read, then obviously this is an aspect the game fails for you.

I think they should have used another method to enhance the world (even though they did some one pulse) besides datalogue but used it as well. But Summing up what was said in conversations is useful in case you didn't understand and or remember. Or didn't want to think about it while they were talking.
